No taxation without representation should be the argument. North BR essentially has a monopoly on power in the city from my research. St George should be allowed to have a vote if they want to leave or not.

Education is one thing, but the mishandling of our tax dollars and Broome's f'd up vision for Baton Rouge are major factors as well. Property owning/tax paying citizens are just tired of watching our money being handed out like it's free.

Why not just agree now to pay double your property tax and make the city better by investing that in infrastructure and schools? At least that way property values have a chance of rising enough to keep/push the poors and Livingstonites out.

like that money would go to infrastructure or schools. It would go to things like grocery stores for the NBR residents to loot and police BBQs with NBR residents

What magical fairy planet do you live on? You think throwing more money at BR’s inept instutions and incapable politicians is a worthwhile endeavor?

You have got to be shitting me. You could triple property tax tomorrow and not a single dime would go to fixing anything in the St. George area. If I were still in BR, I’d be on the front line campaigning for a split.

The current mayor has made it clear she wants the white peoples of BR to pay to “fix” the black areas. You can’t work with that. A split is the only way at this point.

Shame on BR for being so dysfunctional that it is even coming to this.

On second thought, shame on you people who chose to live in Baton Rouge in the first place. Four years at LSU and one of the biggest lessons was never to settle with the boundaries of a major urban shite hole like BR, Jackson, Montgomery, etc.

Whatever it takes. There's one last hope for EBR and it's this. If it fails, turn out the lights because South BR's population (and their money) is rolling out.

Forming a city is separatist BS?
Then Baton Rouge is racist I guess. They incorporated 201 years ago. Those racists!!!!!

I get that, life happens. But I do not empathize nor sympathize with the situation of St. George (or North Baton Rouge for that matter).

It's all about the schools...

So why is every apartment complex that that is even close to the edge of the st george map that would fall in st. george cut out.

You think the natl media won't pick up on that. There are several where the driveway and the apartments are the only thing not in the st. george area, while the surrounding area is st. george.

I'm for st. george but that was a stupid decision that will open st george up to criticism.

They excluded areas that had low signature counts last time. I guess people in Gardere don't care if they are sending their kids to F rated schools

Apartments were cut out because people move in and out of apartments so that makes it more difficult to gather signatures. You get a lot thrown out if people signed over a year ago but then no longer live there anymore when it’s time to validate the petition.

Would they even get to vote on the measure?

The vast, vast majority of the opposition, and the funding for the opposition, will come from outside the proposed city boundaries.

It's going to be insane, scorched earth.

It will be interesting if the city and the city-parish offer any incentives to St George to remain like they are.

Wasn't like that the first time they tried to incorporate. Dirty politics from the first attempt drew the current proposed boundary lines.

you mean the people who live in apartments and don't own land or pay property taxes don't get to decide for the rest of the people who pay property taxes??

If you didn't sign in high numbers the first time, why should you be included. You demonstrated the fact that you preferred the status quo.

The SG organizers were right when they respected the wishes of the areas on the fringes who didn't want in by excluding them.

Why would you chastise them for that?
