Central is a piece of shite. Are you really trying to put St George in that same boat?
Are you really trying to claim that an area that is not part of the city of Baton Rouge is part of the city of Baton Rouge?

You could write a 1,000 page Federal Report of how busing slaughtered Broadmoor HS, which for me will forever be the poster child for the travesty that was the Judge John Parker desegregation order.
Slaughtered the Broadmoor housing market too. Just think how much tax money NBR would have to steal if Broadmoor had higher property values. I am sure other schools and neighborhoods are the same.

They are not in the city of Baton Rouge and they are not leaving East Baton Rouge Parish.

obviously that is true but from a practical perspective, it doesnt matter. when you find your self within the proposed STG boundaries, if some asked you "where are you?" the answer would be "baton rouge"...
your street address inside STG right now is "baton rouge"
etc...
and this is even different from the often mentioned central area...that are was always known as "central" and not "baton rouge". i have lived and/or worked in baton rouge for 30 of my 52 years and never once have i referred to south BR as "st george". its not just semantics...
BTW i would vote for it if i lived there, just pointing out that the reality of this is that SBR is in every way deciding to separate from the rest of BR

SBR is the area south of Florida and west of a line from the old airport to Essen, something like that. It extended south to Highland Road.
The bottoms, college town, southdowns, capital heights, the garden district, old Goodwood, etc. is traditional SBR.
SG is south and east of SBR.

That just isn't true.

False. In no way is anyone separating from Baton Rouge. This is an unincorporated area that’s attempting to make their own city.

It will be pretty contentious. Enough so that the city of BR will come out in droves to vote against the formation of a new school district when its time for the parish to vote.
Only time will tell.
Only time will tell.

Black and white kids would be getting a decent public education if it wasn't for him.
Catholic
Parkview
Dunham
Episcopal
would have smaller enrollments too

my post went over your head
I’ll try again
yes STG is unincorporated but in every way that means anything it’s Baton Rouge a s has always been batton rouge. There is no longstanding community or identity called “st george” like there was in central. so, the area being now called st George is attempting to separate from Baton Rouge, which it has always been a part of whether inside the city limits or not
Again, I support the effort.
Just trying to answer the OP’s question about how this will be played in the media, which I’m sure you already know and agree with

FTFY. Hope Judge Parker burns in hell for destroying the schools.

Time will solve my question. Enjoy the ride.
Cgrand, you represent the fool class of the public that’s going to be spoon fed what to believe.
You’re incorrect in your belief that the area unincorporated always was Baton Rouge is based an address your most valid point. However, I was a resident of unincorporated part of land in East Baton Rouge. We typically went by neighborhood names or high schools. Shenandoah, Broadmoar, Woodlawn, Westminster, and the list goes on. There’s a reason those areas weren’t previously incorporated. They didn’t want to be to avoid the stupid taxes of the city. The formation of St. George, albeit named after a fictious saint and the biggest catholic school in the heart of proposed city, is the culmination of the areas protecting themselves from excessive taxation with little appreciation.

Hopefully this movement will help to educate people, and they will learn why it's important to how things work in the parish.
BR gets the benefits from BRPD, they benefit from the BRFD and its class 1 insurance rating and city street lighting. There are city taxes that unincorporated folks don't pay.
There are also taxes for SGFD that SG pays for fire service that BR doesn't pay.
Then there are taxes that are comingled and no one really knows how much BR uses to pay their bills and how much services SG gets for those taxes.
As hard as BR is fighting to stop SG, you gotta believe BR is coming out way ahead.
