Tesla's taking over, baws. Guess y'all better find a lithium plant to transition into.

Already here, baw.

Louisville has way more in common with the Midwest than the South, imo.

This is my biggest concern. Many cities across our country are already operating on antiquated and deteriorating electrical grids. Large scale improvements will have to be made. We all know who will pay for that.

25% is a huge number when you are talking about total consumption.

Not that bad over a 20-30 year timeframe.

That 25% would almost certainly fall as well as battery tech and EVs continue to develop.

Have you read up on how these wind farms just slaughter birds?
I've read a lot of the propaganda against renewables. However many hundreds of thousands or even millions of birds claimed to be killed by wind farms, it's still dwarfed by the billions killed by cats each year.

How much land do you think we have to cover with solar panels to make a dent in demand?
Less than half a percent of the US land area could satisfy ALL the demand. But we're not really trying to do that.

A multi-acre farm barely generates enough electricity for one Walmart.
The multi-acres that the Walmart already occupies? This is the single greatest advantage of solar, it doesn't have to take up any additional land area.

Bonus question: What is happening to the temperature on Earth when we use solar panels to trap energy that would normally be reflected back into space?
It's not much different than sunlight hitting grass or an asphalt roof.

gonna be a lot harder to run over liberals on bicycles

Its actually easier. Silent running cars and fat liberals make for a deadly combo.

I do see the humor in EV plants using gasoline powered equipment and material made/delivered by gas powered equipment to build a product intended to be better for the environment.
Are you easily amused? This is just how technology advances, we use the tools we have to build new ones. I bet they used a lot of pencils and paper to develop the first computers.

Your takes are pretty shitty and devoid of logic.

I don’t have a problem with electric vehicles, it’s the pretending I love the environment bullshite.

I’m going to own an electric vehicle that still ruins the environment and continue to fly everywhere that still ruins the environment.

So go ahead a push EV. Just stop with the bullshite.

it should be a free market across the board, no government overreach period.

The government has already injected itself deeply in the market. This market in particular. Central planning always has holes that will be exposed, and is terribly nearsighted.

This is an intuitive position but it is likely nowhere near as dire as our intuition suggests. There was a YTer (the one that got a Mach E) that did a numbers based break down if everyone converted to EVs tomorrow.

The production side especially if the primary charging occurred at home in off peak hours wasn't daunting at all. The distribution side was where the problem was bigger. That being said if you socially engineer with discounts etc the charging times during the off peak hours it really was a very approachable issue as well. These are especially true when you consider the EV uptake will be over a couple of decades at best.

Just little things like using connected chargers and possibly smart grids could shift charging around to be every efficient. Have solid discounts from 7pm-1am for even numbered houses and shift to discounts or odd numbered houses from 1am to 7am. These are things that are easy to do in the connected age and could go a long way to smoothing demand.

Right but they didn't try to ban production of pencils and paper after the computer was invented and both of those are terrible for the environment.

I’m not necessarily arguing your point and we both agree the government has no place in what should be a free market. BUT, the government has always injected itself into the auto market with bailouts, so this doesn’t come as a surprise especially with silly climate change social initiatives the government feels they must enact and regulate.

When is Louisiana going to get an EV plant?

Or any plant that isn’t oil/gas related.
