How Many People Do You Know that Were Bitten by a Venomous Snake?

I know of five:
- kid in an older brother's class in elementary school in MS like 55 years ago was bitten by a timber rattler
- knew of a fellow worked on a power & light crew that was dispatched on power line at night after a severe weather event that was bitten. Never new what kind. Circa 1980.
- one of our techs' teenage sons in Orange Co. FL went out one afternoon to practice bow shooting. Happened upon a eastern diamondback and thought what the heck, I'll shoot it with an arrow. Which he did pinning the snake to the ground. Went on to his site, did his target shooting, and on his way back reached down to retrieve his arrow from the snake and BOOM. Fortunately, he was near a fire rescue station that put in him pressure. Was told if he hadn't been young he would be dead. Circa '95.
- Acquaintance who worked for BP was on safari in S. Africa and was bitten by a cobra. Never knew the whole story but only that he survived.
- neighbor in Katy was bitten by a copperhead
Closest I've come was my wife and I were walking along Buffalo Bayou in Katy on warm, late afternoon in November, grass was higher than it should've been. Thought I'd snagged my sock on a briar and reflexively twitched my foot. Small cottonmouth (probably just over a foot long) struck the bottom of my tennis shoe.
I hate snakes.

Two both by copperheads
Edit: I actually have a video of my son(8 at the time) stepping a a baby copperhead with flip flops on. We were very fortunate the snake didn’t bite him.

Zero
We had a pregnant bluetick hunting dog bit in the neck, it swelled up like a softball but cleared up.
She had her puppies and they were all fine

My son in law's cousin was bit by something bad in Alabama. They were deep in the woods and it was scary getting him out and getting to a place with antivenom.
I think the kid was like a preteen or a younger teenager.

Thankfully none. But admittedly, that would be scary.

I saw a snake (cottonmouth) when I was 2 and ran in the house and said it bit me. My dad verified the snake in the yard. They rushed me to the hospital. Zero puncture wounds. Apparently I was a lying a-hole as a toddler.

Can’t say I personally know anyone that has been bit by a venomous snake.

An acquaintance of mine just walked outside her front door one day and got bit. Sometimes it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed.

I was bitten by a copperhead when I was 12. Lost two dogs to what I assume were Rattlesnake bites.

I know of two. My grandmother's gardener was bitten by a pygmy rattlesnake and lost the finger where he was bitten. The other was a customer in Boutte when his shop flooded and he was cleaning up and got tagged by a cottonmouth.

Not snakes but brown recluses. Have known two perfectly normal men that simply put their yard shoes on (left in garage)one day and a few days later had their foot or leg from the knee down amputated. So crazy to think about how severe something like that can be.

A lawyer in New Orleans that I had a case with was bit on the beach in Pensacola. Walked down the steps bare foot at night to get a beer out of an ice chest and a rattlesnake underneath the steps got him. Took several weeks to recover.

One.
Buddy on a beach trip. Had a baby snake go into a pool filter, everyone was freaking out. He just snatched it out and it got him, cottonmouth. He was lucky dry bite.

I knew someone that when they were a youngster was goofing off with friends in the woods. At some point he got down on the ground to look into a hollow log and a moccasin bit him on the face.
What saved him was the snake bite through his cheeks and most of the venom went into his mouth which he of course spit out. Face swole up and he felt bad for a couple of days but lived to tell the tale...

Early 50's childhood W TN town and farm kids learned good vs bad snakes pretty early. King snakes were good pets except for the hassle of feeding live mice. In every scout troop there was at least one reptile guy with that merit badge. I knew one such kid who got bitten in the hand by a small copperhead while goofing. He survived the incident with some impressive swelling. Hope he made it to adulthood.

My grandpa was bitten by a mocassin when my dad was dating my mom. He never went to the hospital. Just stayed in a room and sweated it out. My dad said it was one of the worst smelling things ever.
