I had my car stolen years ago, maybe 1999 or so.
Nothing recently.

Does spending a night in jail count?

My wallet was pickpocketed at Marci gras once. Oddly the cash was taken out of it and the wallet put back with my ID and cards.

Not sure how I didn’t notice. I walked into a bar and pulled my wallet out and 500 in cash wasn’t there.

Have been with someone who got held up at gun point and robbed. I was inside at the time. When I came out, my friend was on the ground.
Witnessed an abduction of woman at knife point while I was parking car near Claiborne avenue.
Neighbors apartment was broken into while they were asleep on Webster street.
My car was broken into several times and once tried to hot wire on valence street.

I go to NOLA often and have had nothing happen

Windows are smashed everywhere - ironically in my neighborhood in BR windows were smashed nightly for like 3 months

In the city weekly

Used to work in the city daily

Nil issues

Does not mean it is not dangerous. Prefer to approach life in context (ie, specific situation risk), not in the group think fear of a multiple-layed boogey man that "validates" an anti-Nola mindset by some that will not change if free beer Fridays were instituted. Well, maybe not.

If just 51% of the negative energy by some about New Orleans shifted from pointing out the incompetence (that is real!), myriad of other dysfunctionalities and those pesky self-serving racial-lens things; to anything that would make a positive change, incremental as it may be, New Orleans would benefit from it.

Instead...the spinning wheel spins.

Nothing since the early 90s, not even a car burglary. I spend 95% of my time in Orleans Parish, living and working there. Granted, I live in a nice neighborhood and my street, for whatever reason, does not seem to attract much drive through crime. But I frequently visit friends Uptown, in Mid City and the Garden District; and go to restaurants, Saints games, music venues, theatre etc... without any issues. I pay attention and don't put myself in dangerous positions, usually. I did walk 2 miles from the Dungeon down Canal St at 1am recently. That was stupid, but no one messed with me. I agree the crime is a major issue and the worst it's been since the early 90s, but it does not keep me from anything I want to do in Orleans.

I’ve lived in NOLA for 45 years. Uptown, Garden District, Mid City. Did the college bar thing for years. Did the French quarter thing for a year or so. Walked around alone late at night in the quarter and uptown. even on e walked home from Canal Street to uptown down St. Charles to Nashville when crime was much worse in the 90s. I still go to the warehouse district about once a month. I do Mardi Gras and jazz fest every year . Recently walked from the smoothie king center to the Fillmore alone at night. I have not had one incident. No muggings, no burglaries, no car break-ins.

I don’t park in shady places. I am more alert now. But I’m not the least bit scared or worried.

Meanwhile, I have a brother who lives in Slidell and has season tickets to LSU games. He won’t even drive though I-10 to get to Baton Rouge for fear of getting shot in Nola east. He takes I-12. ??

NOPD officer wrote me a ticket for an illegal left turn I never made. I was headed home northbound on Carrolton. I stopped at the light before the westbound lane of Earhart Blvd. Two cops come out as soon as the light turns green and pulled all of us over who was at that light. Dude says he saw all of us make an illegal left turn.

I was in the furthest right lane and somehow avoided getting into an accident making this phantom left turn to get into the neutral ground. Yeah you saw it you blind motherfricker.

I got sold shitty weed back in my college days. One of the dumber things ive ever done, but I made it out alive. A hood rat dude on poydras offered me some when I was drunk and I followed him down a side street (had someone else with me). Actually went pretty smoothly, but like I said, it was shite.

You live and learn. Most importantly in this situation, you live.

Especially if you're coming in from Slidell considering you might get randomly shot up on the interstate.

Had to whip some dude’s arse one yr at the truck parade for pushing my gf’s younger cousin for beads.

Of course we had to be the people to leave because in true Nola fashion he uses the “stay right there I got something for y’all line” and no one was trying to get shot that day.

If you want to live in a world where windows getting smashed is the norm, and it's no big deal, then that's on you.

Don't act like its normal and ok though, b/c it isn't.
