When, not if, it's your turn to get hit by the crime, I hope it's just a robbery.

I live part-time Uptown.

My neighbors have had car windows bashed. (I don't park on the street.) That's about the worst of it.

I do always take a good look around when I come out and before I get in my vehicle. And when I pull in, I get right out and look around. I think I have stared off some folks.

At least a few of the carjackings involve people leaving their cars running. I never do that.

This thread is full of specifics. Your post is a joke.

Okay.

I don’t disagree crime is bad, I loathe the leadership here but wasn’t around to cast my vote for the opposition at the time.

Im just pointing out that both my wife and I, and thousands of other people, live and work here daily with no incident. My wife grew up here, I’ve been visiting off and on since college and moved here in 2019. Yes, I’ve had a window smashed and it sucked and it’s bullshite that it happened and continues to happen but I’ve never felt physically endangered in all my visits and time living here. Maybe it’s luck, maybe I don’t hang out in bad areas at bad hours, maybe it’s both idk. I just find it funny that people in other parts of the state think the second they cross into Orleans parish they’ll be shot, carjacked, mugged, etc when that’s not the case. You should know that being that you’re from the area IIRC.

Window smashed at a Mardi Gras parade and caught up in a stampede after gunshots in the quarter one time. Go to Nola all the time - but not really a lot since Covid.

Circa 2008, jumped at night by an assailant accompanied by a group about a block from Fahy's bar near the Rampart Street edge of the French Quarter (540 Burgundy). Came to my senses while on my knees and being pummeled. With my attacker's knees in front of me, I grabbed his legs and executed a takedown, then got up and ran. My female friend was equally drunk and followed me to safety inside Fahy's. A police and EMT came and discouraged me from both filing a police report and seeking medical attention via ambulance. I woke up the next day in agony and went to hospital. Diagnosis: Collapsed lung and cracked ribs.

I guess I don't get the joke. Even if victim blaming made the crime somehow less of a problem, this thread isn't filled with those kinds of stories.

I can't believe in 2023 we still have NOLA sycophants downplaying the crime. It's honestly impressive

ETA: Being from here and still working downtown should give some credence to what I post. The crime isn't localized like it used to be. Almost nowhere is safe anymore. The city is fundamentally different than it was even 10 years ago. If you don't agree with that, you have your head up your arse.

I got robbed on N. Peters back in ‘08 in the middle of the damn day. 3 dudes (one with a knife) and one rough looking woman. I had separated my money and pulled $40 cash and told them thats all I had. I handed it over and walked on. Did an over the shoulder check and they were gone.

Yeah! Frick them! They had it coming to them!

Not walking alone or down uncrowded streets at night is a rule that applies to every major city in the world.

I grew up in NO. I have had guns pulled on me twice, my apartment door kicked in just as I left the place and the intruder confronted my roommate. My sister walked up on 3 guys breaking into our house.

Had my truck tailgate stolen off my truck. I guess in the grand scheme of things at least I didn’t get shot there or on the way there.

Luckily some guy in NOLA had a truck tailgate in the same color that I bought for $150. Tried my key to see if it was the same to no luck. Pretty sure it was the same guy that took mine though.

it seems like a lot of you will respond with this to anything that’s less than “I fear for my life every time I step outside”. No one outside of maybe one or two people
Here are “downplaying the crime”

Never argued otherwise. Though, getting in fights or mugged in the French Quarter is not a new thing in the last 10 years. It’s always been filled with vagrants, homeless and scammers.

When I was 20, I tried to go around a barricade during Mardi Gras. There was no parade, and I was trying to go urinate. Cop checked my id and seen I wasn’t 21. He took all my beads and my cash that was in my wallet and sent me on my way.

Armed robbery and carjacked
Jumped/mugged by 3 people in the quarter
Friend robbed outside a convenience store when I was in the car
Dad's store held up about 8 times
2 cars broken into
Brothers house broken into and robbed of cash and jewelry
Aunt had a murder happen in front of her apt a few years ago and the body left in her trash

Purely anecdotal though

To me, nothing really. When I lived there, My friend had his truck stolen outside my apartment and my ex-girlfriend was robbed at gun point on St. Charles.

Went to eat dinner. Came out truck and was gone. This was in 2011 so nothing has changed down there. Always has been a shite hole.
