Oak Harbor
#7 playing 165 downwind
8 iron, one hop and in (according to the group ahead of us) High lip of trap hid the hole from our view.
Drinks for group ahead of us and my playing partner.
Was on the way to my son's soccer playoff game later that night.

First - 9-Iron from 137 on #12 at Northwood CC. Spun it back into the hole. Made during the money game so the bar tab was twice what I won in skins & bets.
Second - 9-iron from 131 on #17 at Shreveport CC during a fund raising tournament. Won two plane tickets on AA. This was when SCC had bent grass and my ball crushed the front of the hole. No drinks as the tournament had an open bar. Got off cheap.
Witnessed double digit HIOs my 35 years of playing golf.
Best - watched a guy I knew from HS Golf hole out a driver on No.1 at Northwood CC during the annual 3-man scramble. Its' a par 4.
Wildest was during college at UNO's tournament at Eastover CC (when it was one course) - Watched a guy in front of me make a one the first Par 3 on back (I think #12). My group plays and I hit the stick and have a tap-in for birdie. Standing on the next tee waiting again, we watched group behind us and the teammate of the first HIO fricking one-hops in. Their golf coach was on the tee box and he went nuts.

I never witnessed one while in high school, don't recall hearing about one at a tournament either.

Had a couple, one was pretty fun though. In a skins group with 2 groups. We watched one of the guys on the 14th make a long chip shot over a bunker for a birdie. He walked to the next tee feeling pretty good, for a minute. Then I holed out from about 150 yds. Hee hee.

Skulled a PW on a 124 yard hole. It bounced about eighty times, rolled up onto the green, and nestled into the cup. My buddies were PISSED. Because they whined for the rest of the round (this was on the 4th hole), they bought their own damned drinks.

Drinks after for the group on you? They weren't serving drinks yet at the course, bought a round down the street for my group.

Old 2nd Hole - LSU Golf course (while in college) probably 15 years ago
187 yards into the wind
5 wood
Worst shot of my life. I was trying to hit a knockdown shot, but skulled it about head high. It finally hit ground in the rough just in front of the green and somehow the ball released onto the green and disappeared. We were all looking behind the green and couldn't find it. Then one buddy decided to check the cup "just in case", and there it was...
May or may not have gone back that night and grabbed the pin.

I'll never forget playing a round with my old instructor (~78-80yo) one summer when I was about 16. He hit his tee shot (from the Senior Tees) and turned around to head back to the cart before the shot had settled. It was tracking toward the pin, hit the green, checked up, and released into the cup.
I was so excited I couldn't stand it. I was jumping up and down and shouting to him that he had made a hole in one. his reply: "Damn son, no need to get so excited. That's where I was aiming"....
Guess the 6th HiO isn't as exciting as the first...

I'm so bad at golf that just hitting the fricking green on a par 3 is cause for celebration.
The old LSU course..got within 8 inches
English Turn, hole #8 ..hit a bad shot that got some incredible bounces and rolled within 12" of the hole...it was a scramble and guess what, i didn't get closest to the hole..cheatin'bastards

So the probability of the average golfer hitting an ace is 12500 to 1.
We got about 60 OT'ers already. Several with multiple aces.

That's the probability of the shot they take at that moment going in for a hole in one. IIRC. Not that they'll ever hit one.

Nearly 40 years of golf it took me to get my first one in April 2011.
Exactly 10 days later I got my second one.
I shite you not.

So the average golfer should hit an ace once for every 12,500 tee shots. Or once for every ~700 rounds of golf. Or once every 13.35 years if said golfer played once a week every single week.
