re: How many of you are planning to live in Louisiana your entire lives? Why?

A bunch of other posters accused me of being a small minded person trapped in a bubble, so I figured I’d use their words in my own argument.

I’m married so I don’t need new friends. Got a good job. So basically fishing and hunting are my reasons for never leaving

My fiancé has a great job, and I don’t really have a reason to leave. Not to mention my entire family is here with one exception. If I pick up and leave, I would have absolutely nothing.

Unfortunately, I’m rooted here and my job pays too much money. I’d love to leave out of here but my parents are close to their 70s and just sort of got bogged down.
The absolute biggest regret of my life is not moving out of here and leaving when I was younger. I kick myself in the arse every time I think about it.
Every chance I get, I remind my kids that once they are out of high school, they’re not allowed to go to college in Louisiana. Go as far away as you want as long as you get out of this cesspool. My two daughters already talk about being in colorado. My boy says NYC but he’s six and has no idea what we’re talking about

And that’s why LA will always have problems. Anyone with any shred of talent and ability leave. I don’t blame you for wanting your kids to create a better situation for themselves, but now all we have left are incompetent, greedy assholes to run things.

Yo we didn’t all move to fricking Houston

I moved a lot when I was younger. Lived in Texas, on the west coast, midwest, and southeast. Moved to New Orleans after college because it was my favorite city and had some family here. My parents and sister also moved here after I had kids. We have all lived in great cities, but not having family nearby is a deal breaker, especially at certain points in your life.
I will encourage my kids to go to college outside of the state and then probably move to where they settle afterwards (if they want me to) to be around grandkids.

I’m all for people living where they would like. What bugs me is when other Louisiana natives give me grief for leaving. They have trouble comprehending that someone who was also born and raised in the state doesn’t see it as the “utopia” they do. Aside from the multiple problems, I’m not part of the good ole boy network (let’s face it, that runs everything in LA in one form or another) so why would I stay?
Call me crazy but I actually enjoy living in a place with no state income tax, infrastructure projects actually see completion and it’s safe enough for me to leave my doors unlocked.

I left for about 10 years and then came back. Don't plan to leave again.
I have a good job and my family is here.

Depends. At worst moving out West. Have my last interview tomorrow. So I’ll know for sure in two weeks

I haven’t lived here all my life and I probably won’t live the rest of my life here but I do love it.

That's easy for you to say. There are Circle K's all over the place. Most of us don't have that option.

Agreed, and i left La myself, hopefully to never go back.
But i can’t imagine anyplace i’d ever live in which i wouldnt lock my doors.. maybe a cabin in Montana or something? Unless you mean just leaving your door unlocked briefly, while running outside or something.. i mean, crazy things happen everywhere, even out in the country.

How many of you are planning to live in Louisiana your entire lives? Why?
Because you can’t grow cotton like this on the East Coast, I don’t want to deal with the rampant regulation on the West Coast, and Mississippi/Arkansas/Missouri would be lateral moves at best for quality of life.
In all seriousness it’s partly because an intelligent, driven person actually has more opportunities in Louisiana than most of these other places. The talent vacuum caused by people leaving makes it possible to really get ahead if you’ve got good ideas and a bit of luck.
I make enough money that I can live very comfortably here and travel to those other places for a visit when the mood strikes me. I also get to eat better food and listen to better music than 99% of most places have on the local listings.
It’s not for everyone, but that’s fine by me.

As soon as I retire, I'm out. I'm too deep into retirement track to give up now.

For the parents, I feel you owe it to your kids to give them more life experiences other than just LA.
See, I have a different view. I think you owe it to your kids to raise them in a place that is unique, culturally rich and interesting. Americans move around too much chasing the higher paying job. The kids I feel sorry for are the ones raised in the suburbs of Houston, Dallas, Atlanta and the like. You could plop each one into the home of the other and they'd barely notice a difference in their neighborhood or their schools. That kind of banality is fine for some, but I'd rather choose to live in a place I love.

Why is this thread about Louisiana cities versus Dallas, Houston, Atlanta? It’s apples to oranges. BR and NOLA aren’t anywhere near the size of these top 15 US metros. Why don’t people compare similar sized cities and not top 15 major US cities?
Posted on 4/30/19 at 3:54 pm to Paul Allen
who knows dude. people be out here comparing small arse Nola to NYC and shite.
Posted on 4/30/19 at 3:54 pm to Paul Allen
Because 90% of the retards who continually start these threads make the epic move to houston or Dallas
