re: English friends coming to NOLA on Friday afternoon - and I'm taking them to LSU-OM on Sat - jsquardjj
Definitely do Morning Call in the park. Honestly, I wouldn't even drive them through Metairie except for I10, let alone eat there. The St. Charles drive is a good idea though. Eat some BBQ shrimp and gumbo at Mr. Bs in the quarter, and then get drinks at Pat Os and walk down Bourbon. Hit Frenc...

re: Bavaria Road Trip - Must see spots? - jsquardjj
Thank you for the link! Looks like a great trip. Did you prefer the Garmisch or Partenkirchen side more? Also, was the trip to the top of the mountain worth the views. It seems like there is a lot of travel time associated with making it to the peak. Hoping we will be able to get some good views f...

Bavaria Road Trip - Must see spots? - jsquardjj
We are flying in/out of Munich in early December and will spend a few days in the city and visit Dachau during that time. From there, we are renting a car and driving about the region for 3 days/2 nights. This is what we were thinking: Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Fussen to Rothenburg We plan ...

re: Defining Well Traveled - jsquardjj
Hard to define, but I would say I do not set the bar too high as far as how many trips. I don't necessarily think it is about the quantity of countries, but the quality of experience. For example, I know people that spent a summer backpacking Europe and maybe hit 10 countries, but used travel ag...

re: Woman adopts pitt bull to save it; it returns the favor by mauling her to death - jsquardjj
I clicked this link thinking I was about to see a picture of my friend who rescues dogs. I was at her house last week and she had a pit mix that she is fostering and let him out. He is only about 1 1/2, so he ran up to me and starting jumping around to play. At some point, he put my arm in his mo...

re: Affordable flights from an Asian city to the U.S. - jsquardjj
I already booked the tickets there with points, I just needed to get back. I Have to be in LA for work afterwards, so it works out. The 272 is American from pek to lax. But you are right, I do need to look into the visa more thouroughly before booking. I thought there was a 72 hour window withou...

re: Affordable flights from an Asian city to the U.S. - jsquardjj
You never know! I found $63 direct flights from Boston to Paris today (Oct 11th), and then spirit has $71 from Nola to Boston. So, for $134 you can get from New Orleans to Paris with only one stop. Not bad. Problem is, I am not familiar enough with the Asian routes to have found a good deal yet. ...

Affordable flights from an Asian city to the U.S. - jsquardjj
I am going to Vietnam in March and I booked first class tickets to HCM with points (pretty much depleting my account, sad day). I am trying to find a creative way to get a cheap economy flight back from Da Nang to New Orleans. It doesn't have to be out of Vietnam though or into New Orleans. I can ...

re: Question on Southwest fares - jsquardjj
That is really high. Its always good to book southwest right off the back though, because you can always monitor and cancel/rebook later. But....the Orlando route is one that I would never fly via southwest. Spirit and Frontier both offer $24 one way non stop tickets frequently to Orlando. I boo...

How far are you going in Florida? The best beaches IMO are on 30A which is about an hour or so after you cross into Florida. If you want the real "Redneck Riviera" feel, Orannge Beach is great, but Seaside on 30A can't be beat as far as water clarity, scenery and people....

re: Rome, Amalfi Coast, Florence in mid-late October - jsquardjj
We did the same trip, but in late September. Rome was warm-hot but Florence was perfect temperature (think New Orleans 68). Almafi was a wonderful temp, but the waters were chilly. I swam, but certain beaches were much colder than others. For example, the famous Firodo di Furore beach only gets a fe...

re: Destin Condo Math - jsquardjj
You should consider looking into emerging markets opposed to already developed ones like Destin. For example, you can find condos in Belize for around 200K that pull in 35K in rental a year. Property taxes and management fees are much less also. Obviously your risk is higher in a foreign market, ...

So, are we not allowed to review a place after trying it? Isn’t that what this board is for? Give me a break. Online reviews are how businesses learn and grow or ignore and flop. You can’t expect every person who does not enjoy their sandwich to give the owner a call and give them a personal com...
