I inherited a fair amount of land... And the belief that I have a responsibility to preserving it and keeping it in my family.
But more than that, I've lived and traveled the globe.
The only places that could entice mw for any real length of time are the south carolina lowlands and Georgia coast. (Literally just copies of louisiana)
I love the weather. I love the people...even as I hate them. I love the food, the drinks, the entertainment.
I love that my local public magnate school is now decently integrated and putting up ACT and SAT scores well above average.
I take a road trip every year across the country. Sometimes into another. I'm always ready to get home.
I've yet to smell anything as sickeningly sweet as when the wysteria and jasmine compete for climbing room above my outdoor seating area.
Life is sweet.

Well if I get the job I want, I’ll much further south than Louisiana

I'm staying but glad you're going.

Need to leave the dump behind. More to life than sucking down seafood platters. 30 days until I’m out of this place. No more sitting in Baton Rouge traffic.
You know there is way more to Louisiana. Been around the world 3 times and there is still no place like home.

I like it just fine. Born and raised here and then moved all over the country for 25 years before returning. Somebody's gotta stay here and fight the good fight...might as well be me.

Your next new town is another’s dump they can’t wait to get out of

Lots of truth in this statement

I'm about to move back to Louisiana after being gone for 30 years and have never felt more excited in my life. Lived everywhere, been everywhere, but home is where the heart is.

It can definitely be hard to move away from friends and family, which is why I'd consider going back depending on what my life situation looks like further down the line.
Houston sure as hell isn't a bigger Baton Rouge with sports teams. Giving up all of your favorite restaurants in BR would be traumatizing I agree lmao.

I moved out and will most likely retire somewhere else. But Louisiana will always be home.

Haha, maybe some day we’ll move out to Andrew.

You’ll enjoy going back home but, if you are like me, you need to move a few states away to achieve your max potential.

Will live here and hold a permanent residence but work out of state. I hate the leadership of this state but I love most of our people and our nature. It’s home.

I’m here visiting now and don’t like it. So ghetto compared to the hill country and ugly as shite too. Not to mention incompetent morons at every turn.
So glad I don’t live here anymore.

I’m a Louisiana born boy, LSU graduate, I will travel a lot, possibly buy a vacation home somewhere, but my roots will always be here.

I actually get depressed coming back here. It’s so poorly run and nasty compared to other places I’ve been and lived.
The longer I’m gone the less nostalgic I am about it. The charm has worn off for me.
I don’t care about Mardis Gras or jazz fest. I just want no crime, pretty scenery, good schools, good jobs and less morons. Louisiana fails at all of that.

Didn’t you just start this thread about moving to New Mexico and you are hating on Louisiana?

Had some friends in high school who had relatives in Durango, CO & Hilton Head, SC. Was fortunate to travel to these places quite a bit and it was really an eye opener to cultures outside Louisiana that appealed to me.
I enjoyed going back to visit the 1st 10-15 years after I left, but now the area I grew up in just seems sad. Can’t speak for north LA, but South La almost feels like it still hasn’t recovered after Katrina and they are just trying to create a livable pocket here and there around the turmoil. Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes need so much infrastructure it’s comical, and the representation they have to accomplish those needs are borderline retarded and absolutely self serving. I’m pulling for the state to succeed, but if I’m a gambling man I’d bet the under.
