.....yes. The business is being charged 3%+ to process your payment. Why should they eat that?

Nobody here is disagreeing with that sentiment. If a business wants to upcharge for using a credit card, I don't have a problem with that. I don't think anyone in this thread does.

Did you get a new AC one way or another? How on Earth could you possibly get a new AC system without a credit score?

The first guy that came out tried to pull a fast one on me.
He said my old unit wasn't fixable.
I got it fixed for 1,500.
Hopefully it lasts a long time.

In the end, you won. If you had a credit score, Lord knows how much money you would have spent.

I have a Cabela’s card and charge around 5k to 6k a month on it. Pay it off every month and wife doesn’t bitch when I use points to buy a new gun every year.

Platinum Amex
Put everything on this and pay off the balance every two weeks.
I use Fold crypto debit card and PayPal to pay the balance
So I get the Amex benefits. The security. The perks. And the points. Then I also get about 1.25% in Bitcoin when I pay it off with my debit card.
I also have an Apple Card I use strictly for merchants that offer 3% cash back but also do the 2% back with Apple Pay mainly at gas stations.

That sounds exhausting.

Have 1 with a 5K limit and I have my monthly charges for my streaming services or if I order something off of Amazon or something. It is paid off each month and the only other time that I use it is when I travel. I don't need it at all ,but have it just because. When I was a young man I had a card with a 20K limit and I let my balance get up to 15K once and buckled down, payed it off, and didn't do that again. Credit Card debt can ruin you if you are not careful.

I got 3 credit cards. 2 of them is locked in with 4% interest rate. I don’t really use them much but I should be.

Your comment is 100% incorrect. The protections and security are the same.

The point is that, if someone is able to use your debit card, they are pulling money directly out of the account that the debit card is connected to. That money is gone until the bank determines that the charges were fraudulent and returns the money to your account.
With a credit card, no money is actually gone until you pay the bill. You dispute the charges, but haven’t actually lost the money.
The cards may have the same security measures, but if someone is able to successfully use your debit card, you’re losing actual money almost as soon as they make a purchase unless you catch it quickly. Not so with a credit card.

Passing on a surcharge is illegal in a few states, others have limits, but the practice is limited in my experience and in those cases do the math on reward vs fee. If it's a wash I still use the card, otherwise use common sense.
As stated many times already, not taking advantage of rewards is leaving money on the table. Those that don't are subsidizing the rest of us as the processing fees are usually built into the price. You are seeing fees passed on more now at mom and pops with inflation - they can raise prices to keep up, or offer a little relief to cash customers by separating this. You won't see major retailers doing this.
In addition to the rewards you often get extended warranties and limited travel insurance, among other protections.
It boils down to self control and common sense.

I freakin love credit cards. Only a true cuck uses cash/debit card in 2024
Posted on 6/22/24 at 5:10 am to notiger1997
This is simple. CC’s give you so much protection and you can dispute transactions much easier. Your debit card is linked to your bank acct. It’s much harder to get that money back from eveything I have read. I had plane tickets bought on my credit card in freaking Buffalo NY.
Have never been there. I had the money back with in 24 hrs. Not sure if that would have happened with a debit card.
The other thing is it is so important to build up your credit for things like buying a car or buying a house.

I have a platinum AM EX that I use for business. Probably put 100K per year on it. I get enough points to take a very nice vacation in it every year.

I work for one of the three major card issuers and have a 25+ year career in the space. Most of what is being discussed is inaccurate when it comes to security, disputes, and chargeback rights. Your debit card has the same procedures as a credit card. The networks define the standards and the issuing bank defines their fraud and dispute policies.
The only thing i would say regarding a debit card is to NEVER enter your PIN. Debit transactions either run through major networks (Amex, Visa, MC) when you sign or the ATM networks when you enter a PIN. The ATM networks might not require as quick of a turnaround. FYI - Merchants request a PIN from you because the (interchange) fees are less on an ATM network than the major networks.
