This sounds harsh but this virus is no different from a forest fire sweeping through a forest to produce new growth. A virus is opportunistic like every other thing in nature. We just happen to be in the way. The good that comes from this will outweigh the bad over time

ETA: there are 4,700 new cancer diagnoses everyday. Varying mortality rates depending on the cancer, but the average is 33%
You are far more likely to get and die from cancer.

Yep. His employees end up being okay but the manager loses his business, his home, and is unable to provide for his family. As a result...he kills himself and his children have to carry on with life without a father.
The daughter becomes a drug-addicted prostitute trying to work her way through college, the son becomes a felon with multiple stints in jail, while the widow dies an early death from heartbreak.
That pattern gets repeated in various ways all over the country for the next 20 years. But hey. We saved a life.

I get your point and agree with you to an extent but all of your examples are based off of choices people make.
However, you can get/give the virus by just crossing paths with someone randomly at the supermarket. Those are two totally different types of scenarios.
