How fat are you? Mine stays on 80-82 in the day. I’ll drop it down to 78 at night. If it’s 95-100 outside, 80 degrees feels pretty cool esp with the fan on.

Mine sits at 80 during the day and I drop it to 75 at night.

Hence the point that all units arent created equal

It's more about the design of the house, quality of the insulation, window locations, amount of shade on the lot, etc., than it is the unit itself.

The damn neighborhood kids kept leaving my back French doors open yesterday.
The neighborhood kids form a line coming in and out, then my boys are last and are the ones leaving the door open. I am about to just go nuts.

You're right, so not all situations are created equal would have been better wording.

insulated attic stairway covers. I have 3 freaking attic stairways inside my house.

One of the worst conditions to have is plenty of ventilation at the ridge of your roof and no or little vents at the soffit. This creates a chimney effect and any little hole on your ceiling will get indoor air sucked out. Attic doors are a big source of leakage. If you walk up into the attic and stand over the opening and are getting blasted with cool indoor air then you know you have a problem.

On a Sidenote. Does anyone else get that weird fleeting sense of guilt when outside in this shitty heat and you walk back in your 72 degree house?

I can't explain it but I briefly feel guilty about cheating/beating the heat.

Then I grab a beer and scratch ma balls and put on the TV.

Just upgraded the main unit to a Bosch 3.5-5 ton with a variable speed inverter which boosts up when needed. My house has never been cooler in the summer.

lemme give you a little hint on a trick. Buy you a misting system for a patio umbrella, cut to length to surround the outside of the unit. Also buy an inline filter to keep the fan coils from scaling up. Set the misting system on a timer and clip it around your outside condensing unit and have it spray hottest parts of the day.

Mine is running almost nonstop, and it’s a brand new system I recently had installed.

I would get that checked out. Does it keep temp or does it run all day and struggle to get to the set temp?

Motor crapped out yesterday.

$500 and a decent cleaning of the outside unit later and it's running like a champ.

If you are trying to keep it 72 when its 97 degrees outside then yeah it will run all day.

Had mine on 77 during day this weekend and it ran maybe 2/3 of the day.

AC's are made to run a lot. People who install a bigger unit than what's called for are making a mistake. Biggest wear & tear on the AC is when it starts up.

Keeps cool just fine, and it shuts off, it’s just back on after 10 minutes or so. In the evenings it is fine. I think it’s just this damn heat we’ve been having lately.

I need to build some insulated attic stairway covers.

best way is to make 1x8 or 1x12 frame to mount to the joists and then you just need a hinged plywood top over it then add Styrofoam house sheeting glued on with caulking and that works great.

i have also stapled regular door seals around the frame in places where there is no overhead room for a hinged cover and then glued Styrofoam board to the door skin. this is what i used LINK

also if you have 3 of them then pick the one most often used and take out and seal up the others. removing 2 of the 3 could drop your electric bill by around $20 a month
