I am hooking up a two inch pump to flood the yard. Might hook up a couple of sprinklers and put them on the roof to cool things down.

Mine stays at 68 all day and night. I don’t want to come home to an 83 degree living room and wait 3 hours for it to cool off to a comfortable temp.

Are people just clueless on smart thermostats?
And the money they save??

*For example, when mine senses I leave the house, it sets itself to 77. At 3:00 it drops down to 73 as I get home at 5:30.

So does my anemic 85 year old grandma who is cold all the time. Congrats on being on her level.

I build houses the rule of thumb is 20 degrees outside of the home.

If it’s 103 outside and your home is in the 70’s you should be happy. My personal home was built in the 60’s and the wall insulation is so poor that it got to 82 in my home Sunday.

Crank up the fans and get through July and August.

are you serious baw? cause that just aint true.

Are you sure.

A guy I been knowing since HS has a AC business. He services it every year. One time I asked him about how on hot days it would struggle. He told me that ACs are designed to keep it about 20 degrees cooler than it is outside so on days with extreme heat its going to run more..

I don't know for sure, but like I said thats what someone who installs AC units told me.

We replaced our old single-pane glass windows a year after the 2016 flood then replaced our 10 seer AC last year with a 14 seer. We have no problems. It's sitting at a cool 69 right now.

Runs in 15-20 minute cycles on and off to keep it at 75, have no shade on my house though.

I hate this time of year

AC guy told me years ago it's tough to cool 25 deg cooler than outside temp.
Initially, yes. But it cools down the intake air 25 degrees.

Put it this way. If it’s 95 degrees in your home, the intake air is 95 degrees and can be cooled off to 70-75 degrees. As the house cools, the lower temp intake air is being cooled even more, so eventually your AC will be putting out air in the 40’s I believe.

How efficiently it cools your home depends on a lot of other factors like size of the unit vs size of the home, insulation of the home, etc.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong. I know car AC’s can put out air in the low 40’s.

No shite.

If you tell it you're going to be home at 5 and want it to be 72 when you get home, it starts ahead of time to achieve that goal.

That's fine and all, and I have a smart thermostat. But if i let my house get to 77 it will be 3am before its back to 70.

Not all units are created equal.

And can take 6 hours to get to that achieved goal. So really it needs to kick on at like 10am. So what's the point in July and August.

Our old house was like this. Current one has a 5 ton Trane and it will cool it down during the middle of the day.

4850 square feet keep house 73 day 71 night electric bill was right at $250 last month. Whole house dehumidifier best investment I ever made, already paid for itself. Also used spray insulation and aluminun clad casement windows which help.

Gives it a few hours break... but it shouldn't take 6 hours to get back down to your desired temp. Your house isn't going to heat up THAT much from when you leave until 10 AM. Unless it's designed like a greenhouse.

I always used to set mine to 85 during the day, 72 when I got home, pretty sure it only took 1-2 hours to get it back down.
