but it shouldn't take 6 hours to get back down to your desired temp.

It shouldnt, but it does. I know im not alone either.

Hence the point that all units arent created equal so a general statement like "buy a smart thermostat" often doesnt apply.

Your a/c will work it's arse off to keep your house 17-20 degrees below the outside temp.

Not anymore. Insulation quality and high efficiency systems have changed things. I keep mine at 71 degrees 24/7 no problem and pay $80 per month. Could be even better if it was single story vs two.

Then it's probably time to bite that bullet.

Spray foam in attic/under floor? What kind of tree cover do you have?

My house was built in the 1930s It comes on around 10 am and runs till midnight every day from June till September
My house is the same. It runs all day and will stay at 76-78 until the sun goes down. My wife keeps suggesting adding a window unit to supplement a/c but that’s just plain trashy.

We replaced our old single-pane glass windows a year after the 2016 flood then replaced our 10 seer AC last year with a 14 seer. We have no problems.
Same here to a 60 year old brick home. Replaced all the shitty single pane windows, blow-in insulation in the attic, and a new 14 seer last year. Plus we have a massive live oak in the back yard that shades the house all afternoon.

If your AC is the correct size for your home and it’s struggling, you need to look at insulation and window replacement. Doesn’t matter how well your AC is working if your home is allowing the cold air to escape.

I agree but i went ahead and bought one anyway for the bedroom. I decided i could live with the trashy level if meant a better nights sleep. It will go in storage in September.

Replaced both condenser units last summer so they're working great this year.

I set my thermostat at 76 and I am perfectly comfortable. Every now and then I will need to turn a ceiling fan on. The AC handles it just for the 4 years I have had the house. Louisianans have a bad habit of setting their AC's at 67 degrees then complaining when their bill is $300 or the AC breaks. If you want it that cold you need a bigger unit.

We keep ours on about 69-70 at night with a fan on high. Usually put it on 72 during the day

That's what we do. It's real live science that's proven optimal sleep happen in rooms at 60-70 degrees.

I have a schedule thingy set to make it go from 70 to 74 at 6am(i'm already up and C likes it warmer), then 78 at 9 am, and back to 72 at 4pm, and 70 at 9pm.

It might not be a huge cost saver in your case, but it's never going to be a bad thing. They aren't very expensive, even you'd likely see the cost returned within a year.

Are people just clueless on smart thermostats?
And the money they save??

Not even that, programmable ones have existed forever. I don't have a smart one but I program it where on weekdays it adjusts at the proper times.

How efficiently it cools your home depends on a lot of other factors like size of the unit vs size of the home, insulation of the home, etc.

i lived in a 1 br loft condo with about 20 ft high ceilings and a skylight. The thermostat was upstairs. The difference in temps upstairs and downstairs had to be at least 10-12 deg. I told my gf there was no point in setting it at 70 during the day bc it would never cycle off or cool below 78-80 upstairs on a good day. The unit was right for the sq. footage but not for the area needed to be cooled.

I should probably check the drip pan this evening and make sure everything is in order.

Minez are now old enough to stay home together. And It's funny when you say the same shite our parents used to hammer in our heads during the summer.

"We got sandwich stuff and leftovers in the Fridge, don't sit on your arse and eat snacks all damned day."

"Close them damn doors. We ain't air conditioning the neighborhood!!"

I got an alert today that the back door was open. it texts me when something is open for 30+min. Was probably just not closed all the way but I messaged all 4 of them assholes about it.

Little frickers.
