1984 would overwhelm a 20 year old today. Way too few rules and too little stimulation , they’d just stand around waiting for someone to tell them what they can an couldn’t do.

No cell phones then, I'd guess more like 1996.

Send me back to the Viking days. I’ll be cleaving my enemies in twain and drinking blood from their skulls in no time.
I have no issue with being the issue of rapers And reavers, killers and thieves.
Give me a world that rained blood and fire among clashing steel.

I’d rather seek Valhalla
And invent toilet paper

You wouldn't do any of that.

I'm not shitting in a chamber pot. So anything past the invention of modern plumbing.
Posted on 1/5/19 at 4:27 pm to athenslife101
Post antibiotics for sure. And ibuprofen. Indoor plumbing helps. I like water heaters too.

the modern American man could go back in time and frick up any era... we're bigger, stronger, smarter...
Posted on 1/5/19 at 4:30 pm to athenslife101
It depends what type of person you are. I think I would be ok with most eras in time.
To have so many modern day comforts, today’s world is complicated and often stressful. Working hard with my hands and a simple life is ok with me.

I've seen kids and teens lose their minds when a TV commercial comes on a live broadcast. Why? Because for their entire lives, mommy/daddy (or them eventually) would fast-forward through them.

You’d love it until the first time you have a toothache or get sick and you realize you’re screwed.

I was coming home the other day and saw some kids playing a game of pickup football, I actually called a friend who is a sportswriter I was so shocked, he asked if I was drinking already, couldn't believe it, said he was going to send a reporter out to cover it

1930's
How many people know how to grow their own food, know enough animal husbandry to provide their family with protein, understand how to get clean drinking water, etc.?

Anyone under 30 in 1984:
1. couldn't navigate, so they'd be lost all the time
2. find news/information
3. no porn - wouldn't know how to find any
4. wouldn't know anyone's phone #s so couldn't call any friends/family
5. no Uber/Lift and they can't drive, so they'd be walking everywhere - also 1/2 the vehicles were manual transmissions back then so doubly fugged
6. wouldn't know how to tune into a radio station, so no music
without a smart phone and the internet they are useless.
