This is absolutely true. I grew up a carpenter in New Orleans. Every aspect of homes back then that were built in the South, were built to breathe and channel the breeze through the rooms. From the design to the building materials.

Go to the WWII museum and check out some of the uniforms and check out the crew compartments in some of the vehicles and aircraft. Those guys were TINY. The wealth of the post WWII years allowed for childhood nutrition and healthcare that was previously unheard of and allowed us to grow much larger as did all the Uranium and Plutonium.

People didn't wear shorts, T-shirts, and short sleeve dri-tek golf shirts back in the 1700s, 1800s and early 1900s.They dressed much more formally, in heavier clothes, and showed very little skin.
