We always just told them some people are clearly confused. Bless their hearts.

If your 8 year old doesn’t grasp the concept of sin you need to do better. If you don’t think 8 year olds are running across sexual content on whatever device they are on then you need to take a break from your own.

i gave both my kids the birds and the bees talk around 10-11.
both kids about a year or two later asked if sometimes a guy liked a guy or a girl a girl. i said yes but it's pretty rare and didn't assign any moral stance to it. after a while, i said you can't help who you're attracted to, but the sexual act between same sexes is a sin, just like if i cheated on your mom. a much more graceful discussion than my dad calling them a "bunch of f*gs and weirdos" back in the 80s.
they both really dislike the alphabet mafia now to the degree at which i have to get on to them for being hateful about it and correct it.

Thankfully I am weird on the subject of homosexuality and gender...it is indeed weird to know the one exists and understand the meaning of the latter term and, at the same time, accept that neither has much if anything to do with my life. It is, as they say, what it is...

I tell mine that there are 2 sexes and that gender is used for inanimate objects in Spanish (el or la) but that progressives successfully replaced the term "sex", which refers to someone's DNA, with "gender", which is not scientific and refers to how someone "feels" at any given moment. Now they know the 2 words are not interchangeable.

Without indoctrination (grooming) no 8 year old would understand the concept of sin. Hell, for the vast majority of people steeped in the indoctrination of whatever religion floats their boat there is little to no understanding of the concept of sin.

My son's godfather is gay. He knows it exists and has never really questioned it or made comment about it.
