Honestly, even with certification it's going to be hard to find a bookkeeper/HR position with no experience, especially in a small company where the bookkeeper does all of the accounting. Those are highly sought after positions for middle aged women with lots of experience.
But there are a ton of different Quickbooks classes out there, both online and at local community colleges. It's a good skill to have.

Um yea. All plants and refineries in the entire region have HR assistants right out of college. We have hired 3 entry level HR assistants in last couple years and we're a relatively small facility.
One is a male.

Go after the internship programs. I don't know what the hiring looks like right now, but if you are willing to relocate, it is an option. They are designed to provide the training you need and job placement with potential for advancement when you get there.
I know teachers, psych majors, HR majors, accountants, etc. who have gone into programs like that.

HR groups are big in diversity and inclusion now and reflecting the values of the company in their hiring practices. I met with the HR leadership group of a F500 organization recently and 11 of the 12 leaders were African American women. Happy to see some org are leading the way in diversity.

Look into HRMS website and take a PHR or SPHR course and get certified is the absolute best route

Don't do it. I have been in HR since 2001. You basically listen to people bitch and complain every day and have to clean up after incompetent managers.

In my experience you need to be an a##hole too .. if you want to piss ppl off, take money out of a coworkers pocket than HR is for you … don't do it

I graduated and started my career in HR before switching to IT. Started as a Recruiter which is great if you’re good at lying to people about how great your shitty company is. Moved to a BP role supporting IT which then led to my role in IT now.
HR is a super diverse field, yes race wise but career wise as well. You can go into analytics, recruiting, business partner route, compensations, training and development....there’s a route for anyone.
Graduated in 2016, my first HR role paid $36k and it sucked BAD. Bounced 11 months later for $66k, last HR role I took was at $102k; this was 4 years out of school. Money can be made if you jump for it and choose the right niche. If you aren’t a dumbass HR robot (why I got out), it’s a change of pace for the business group your support and they’ll extremely highly value your help.
