Good summary of changes to Prairie hunting on Ramsey russel podcast w past delta director. Summary is that out fitter trips have tripled in sk over 10 yrs and Prairies want to to keep door knocking as an option and keep hunting open to locals that leases threaten. There is serious anti outfitter sentiment, we have seen it as many landowners wont allow outfitters, once we mention we are not outfitters permissionis granted. Its episode 708. There is some anti American sentiment too, US tariffs on cdn ag eg canola strengthen this, that's my observation.

On paying landowners it varies w province, its common in Ontario for hunting clubs/outfitters to pay farmers for access and its allowed. Its not legal in Saskatchewan or Alberta as i understand. Not sure about Manitoba.

One other item to add, if you fly out of Saskatoon expect to be interviewed by provincial and federal game wardens. They set up at baggage drop off and if you are flying w coolers etc they will check and they will make sure all the stories in your group are the same. You dont need someone bragging about limits and numbers etc it attracts attention. Dont know if its the same in Winnipeg calgary or Edmonton

Let me help you out, layouts suck. A frames are the king, just brush them well w whatever you can find :)

No colours, you are probably rt for travel to the US, I am cdn and the processing is fine for us as we stay in canada. We checked w federal game warden in canada and grinding is considered processed. I should have said that's for cdns.
Again great summary. We hunt N of Saskatoon at the northern most ag. One thing we have found is brushed in blinds work better in fields than layouts. Even when layouts are well grassed etc, birds flared.

Solid advice no colour's, a cpl of things to add. Competition is coming, last yr there were two outfitters and another DIY group. In past yrs we had the area to ourselves. You are rt about not supposed to pay landowners, we will offer some wine or beer or a little cash saying take your wife out for supper.
On birds , if you process them e.g. grind them they dont count towards possession. So when we get a pile of birds we will grind and freeze for trip back to ontario, its 30 hrs. Saw Ramsey russel a few yrs back in a diner so we must be in a good spot. And ya no morning amd afternoon hunts unless you use an outfitter, too much work. Cheers

Saw the show in nia falls, was disappointed that tyminski wasn't there but what a tight band, its a very rigid set list but they dont miss a beat and seem to enjoy playing. I have always liked them but Mrs ontario was familiar, now it all i hear around the house on her Playlist. Glad I got to see one of the premiere bluegrass bands

Bonine for me. I can use scopalomine but some ppl have terrible reactions to it. Hallucinations etc, there have been law suits, go figure.

re: Could you ever date a young widow with kids?
Posted by OntarioTiger on 5/1/26 at 1:45 pm to FahQGump
Long term ex gf married a good friend of mine, he died in a wreck. They had a young son. I was married when a mutual friend reached out to me about ex and asked me to reach out to her. It was a hard pass by me on contacting ex, nothing good would come of it. She eventually remarried a widower, had a brady bunch of kids between them. He passed away in last cpl of yrs ago so he luck w husband's is not so good

Have a good friend who was at the masters w his dad, dad has a cardiac incident and there is a full suite of volunteer cardiologist who look after pops. Dad needs to go to hospital for observation and is ok. No charge from masters or hospital its taken care of.
Turns out masters have a full ER staff of volunteers to take care of medical issues for patrons, probably some the best care any where. As i understand it the docs and nurses who volunteer also get tickets to watch.

re: Is Moose good eating?

Moose is great especially early in season when they are eating aquatic plants. Late season when they transition to cedar or spruce not so much, aka spruce moose, like chewing a pine needle

Had grilled guinea pig in Peru, was tasty and pretty common. More like pork.
