And it would not cost $500k to remodel. Half that will put that house back in pristine condition with updates. That was another lie he told.
Again not true.

While I love the house and its architecture.... If i was the developer, I wouldnt wait for the city to tell me anything. its my property. I'd do with it what I pleased.
This should be a lesson to people that are selling their property. If you are so attached to the history of your property, then either dont sell it, or sell it with a convent or some language describing what can and cannot be done by the buyer.

Gotcha, sitting back and vaguely telling everyone how wrong they are is a much better approach anyways

They didn’t sell it to a developer, they sold it to a couple, thinking they were going to move in, fix it, but the buyers sold it within an hour to the developer. They basically were the developers, acting as a couple.
This is not true
this is absolute truth. the buyer knocked on the door and made them an offer, and said he wanted it for his family home. he brought his wife by to see it, and they said they were renovating it to raise their family in. after the sale, they immediately sold it to a home building business they own part of, and a second business who has flipped houses with the first business for several years. it was sold to individuals who flipped it to two companies who flip houses.

Why do you care what someone else does with land they own?
Because 4 shotgun houses on that lot won't fit in with its surroundings.

The olds love property values going up, but don’t want to pay the higher property taxes associated with higher values. If the assessor revalued property - up and down - according to actual values, it would not only help the tax base, but free up property that has been sitting for decades.
Senior Tax Freeze prevents the taxes from being raised after the owner turns 65 years old.

Sure it is doosh. I just happen to know what shite costs. You spend $500k on that remodel and you are getting fricked.
But I have a feeling you are the one doing the fricking on this deal.
Your name is fitting.

Hideous. Reminds me of that house on Sherwood, which I spent a lot of time at. Modern art deco. Flat roof, just awful.
This is my favorite style. Oddly coming back into style lately as well.
I went to a house in the same area as the one in OP a couple years ago that was built by an architect in the 50s and, while appliances and whatnot have been updated as needed, it is still exactly how it was then. The people who live there furnish it in exactly the way to make it match the style of the home - with either actual retro furniture or just furniture in that retro style.
It even has a sunken in living room and they were playing music on records. I was obsessed with it.

Don't want to read through the entire thread, what is the zoning of the property and the minimum lot size?
Sounds unfortunate but if they have the right zoning they can probably do everything by right.

According to the link above they have someone who will buy it but haven’t heard back from the developer. Zoning is A1 and it’s big enough for 4 houses. It still needs a demo permit and it also has to be approved to be subdivided so they can drag there feet a bit (the city) if they want.
Over 4K signed the petition which doesn’t mean much but reading a list of names I recognized at least a dozen that live within a couple blocks that I know personally and I’m sure there are others. The only way might be shaming them but I doubt the developers give a shite what people think about them.
I like the house and hate to see it go but demo and building new wouldn’t bother me as much as parking 4 houses on that lot if I lived on that street.

I live very close to this house and would buy it tomorrow if they would sell it to me, but I would be end up as unpopular as the current owner bc I would like to tear it down and just do 2 nice lots and have a compound scenario. I would build a house and make a certain poster here build in there next to me and have a nice spot. Honestly had I known the residents of the house wanted to sell I would have approached them a long time ago, as would many others

Well it’s not that they wanted to, they were talked into it. Those guys have moxie and initiative. Shooters shoot as they say. But I like your 2 house plan and sorry it won’t come to fruition.

Is $800,000 FMV? I understand no appraisal was performed, but is it close?

Saw the name of an acquaintance who lives on Woodland on the petition. They pejoratively referred to that house as the Brady Bunch house. I know they don’t want 4 houses squeezed in there.

Are you talking about the square white brick house on the corner, looks like a Baton Rouge sewer lift station? That thing is fricking ugly.
Yup, awful.

There is no residential lot in BR worth $800,000, except maybe the Pennington house on Highland Rd
Then why did a developer pay $800k for a lot that requires additional demo costs before being useful? Your post is demonstrably false.

Unfortunately, DPW permits office is run by yes men to the developers.
