Just read that in BR Business Report.

I wish they would have thought about contacting preservationists years ago to help with the home.

You know why they didn't? Because deed restrictions like that suppress the value for properties like that. They wanted to squeeze every cent out of that house for themselves. It was only after they had gotten theirs did they find religion about historic design and architecture.

There has been lots of decent houses in Westdale area sold for $500,000 plus and the owners have torn down and built 2+ mill houses on the lots.

Probably 10 of em on Ingleside

Not only that but they are hard to maintain. The flat or low-slop roofs are very prone to leaking. Exposed windows with no overhang isn't a good idea either.

Those houses were built with looks in mind and not performance.

I agree with you 100% here. I think there was dirty play on both sides. They are acting all poor, can’t afford to fix it, etc. You live in a nearly $1,000,000 home. The home needs $$$$$ to repair it. You let it go to shambles, sell it for $800,000+, and now you want to save it.

I would like to know how much they paid for it 20 years ago.

Our climate is completely awful for that type of architecture.

Exactly. Robert E Lee High School was a masterpiece when it was built in 1958. People came from all over to see it. But once again, flat roofs and other designs that don’t work in south Louisiana (plus lack of maintenance by the school board), caused it to deteriorate.

It works well in the southwest.

Well, it works better than here.

I’m not offering. I’m just pointing out older homes take a lot of work and when people grow old in them it gets hard to do as he made a statement regarding they allowed it to get in bad shape.

A lot of people don’t have $40k for a new roof or whatever when they are buying medications, supplemental insurance, groceries etc...and trying to keep the lights on.

Whats the address? Want to see if zillow has some pics.

Shame someone wants to tear it down, but everyone has their own taste. AP is filled with fake stucco McMansions.

I used to run past that house everyday. It is a very nice piece of property. I didn’t know it was that old, just that it was different.

Thanks.

4WHLN is a uppity new home building commie!

Also...not a bad guy and I hope he doesn't use one of his guns on me.

Also also; the pics online are fricking garbage. They deserve to have their shite torn down for what made it to Zillow. Looks like a bad 70s porn set filled with cheap 'art'.

Roofs have nothing to do with it. There are 80 year old dead level coal tar pitch roofs with 8” of water on them all over New Orleans and they don’t leak. A flat roof installed correctly and maintained properly will outlive any shingle roof on the market today.

Any roof like anything else requires maintenance and most problems are caused by lack of.

Lee High needed replacing because it was a school that was 50 years old and was just worn out and not functional in today’s educational facilities. It served its purpose and had reached its lifespan.

All 1950's era architecture should be demolished

What about the 40's..or Frank Lloyd Wrights 1930's stuff...but 3 tract houses crowbarred into the space that one one used to reside on, that's acceptable? Unfortunately the developer has the right (presuming code allows for 3 houses on it) but ...maybe the developer will do something worthwhile, something other that three floorpans but in differnt colors

Why take the chance? Any sloop in the south is better than flat.
Do what you want, asking for maintenance and cost.

I categorically agree with this. Amazing how timeless most colonial style homes are, even ranch style homes. But so many homes, especially the ones thought to be unique, built from the 50's to the 70's look like shite.
Flat roofs
No symmetry
Narrow windows

Yep! This area has become very highly sought after in the last several years. I know a contractor that lives very close to this house and he told me there were multiple people eyeing this property to do exactly what the current owner is about to do with demo and subdividing the lots.
