re: lawn mower kicking my arse

Time to update.
If you will recall, the mower would run, then die.
I changed the carb, same result.
cleaned the tank and lines, same result.
so, i bought a new coil and spark plug.
It wouldn't start without a hit of ether (actually, carb cleaner spray is volatile enough to prime it). this motor does not have a pump primer, just a choke lever that releases automatically.
so, hit it with the spray, and it runs fine. does not die. but restarting requires another hit of starter fluid.
my grandfather had a habit of "fixing" things by modifying the original design. he was not always successful. i'm thinking a hole drilled in the air filter housing behind the filter and just big enough for a stream of ether will be the perfect "fix." Maybe duct tape a drink holder on the handlebar to hold the can of starter fluid. Thanks Diddy, i learned from the best.
The up side of the "fix" will be that the hole will allow unfiltered dust to destroy the engine and I'll finally have to give up on it.

How far inland does Perdido Key extend?
Posted by piratedude on 4/28/25 at 5:32 pm
I get emails from Zillow daily with the latest listings on Perdido Key. The most inland property today is 4.65 miles inland, above the naval air station. I would like to pay West Pensacola prices for a Perdido Key home, but I need an OT ruling of exactly how far off the island I can be and still be in Perdido Key. Also, since proximity to, and not actual location on the island, is important, if i bought within 4.65 miles of Ono Island, am I not on Ono as well as Perdido Key?

I agree. the last time i was before Wilson Fields, he admonished me for attempting to continue my argument while the opposing attorney was trying to interrupt. it may be relevant that my client and i were the only white people in the room.
re: To the guys who are done with the fertility rate: what’s a vasectomy like?
Posted by piratedude on 4/22/25 at 4:05 pm
the worst part was when they hooked the vas with the knitting needle and pulled it to the incision. it wasn't painful, but the tug was disconcerting. i was trying to follow by levitating, but he told me to relax. no pain during or after. short recovery time where you're justified watching tv on the sofa, and back to normal. Says she still can't taste the sucrose.
re: Dental Insurance not from an employer?
Posted by piratedude on 4/16/25 at 11:01 am
I read an article many years ago that opined that dental "insurance" is not really insurance. Insurance is an agreement whereby you pay someone else to accept a risk you have. A dental policy is just a contract where you give the company some money, they deduct a portion for themselves and then pay the remainder your money back to you. The limitations of benefits means the company does not accept any risk.

just because a person has a drink or two at dinner doesn’t mean they are killing a family of four on their way home.
Apparently, the statistics show that people who are impaired tend to kill more families of four on their way home from dinner. The definition of impaired is now .08% as determined by our legislature. if 2 drinks with dinner puts you over, don't drive. FYI, i'm not sure what a MADD type person is, but I'm just an old lawyer who has seen plenty of drinking/driving/heartache, including a former client who recently drove drunk and killed a guy.
Weigh the value of the ability to consume alcohol with your dinner then drive against the value of the family of 4 you kill on the way home when you're .09 but not "drunk"

Wasn't "drunk", but was over legal limit
FYI, the law does not require you to be "drunk" to arrest you. Just that you be over the legally defined limit. As you might expect, society isn't interested in a system where a person consuming alcohol gets to be the final authority on whether he is fit to drive.
I enjoy not dying at the hands of a drunk who was sure he could drive fine. the fact that we're talking about the low BAC limit is a good thing.

in louisiana, the peremptive period to file a lawsuit against a title attorney is 3 years. if a title error shows up on day 1148, you're SOL. Title insurance remains in effect. i use a trustworthy friend (John Hopewell, he's the best) for title work and i buy title insurance.

Sounds like a fuel issue or maybe a coil breaking down
i have satisfied myself that it is not a fuel issue. having never experienced a coil failure before, I just assumed electrical issues would be working fine, or dead. I have ordered a new coil and plug, and we will see monday.
Thanks

older yardman mower with honda ohc engine. was running fine, then would quit after a minute. obviously fuel right? changed the carb, and it started right up, but quit a minute later. blew out the fuel lines and the shutoff valve. same thing. cleaned the tank and left the cap off. fresh gas. started fine, ran fine for 30 seconds, then quit.
plug looks good.
is it time to put it on the street and spend $350 for a new one?

what harm has been caused to you or your son that needs a court to rectify?
I'm late to the game, but i would say that it has harmed his child by depriving him of the ability to obtain a learners permit/drivers license. The point is not that he could avoid the problem by obtaining a SSN. The point is that the state of louisiana is violating a federal statute that prohibits anyone from requiring a SSN in order to obtain a drivers license.
re: What is The Worst Job You've Ever Had?
Posted by piratedude on 4/9/25 at 3:21 pm
It wasn't the job that i hated the most, but working a punch press at Dittco Doors in Monroe in the spring of 1974 sent me looking for a college degree. The job i hated the most was accountant at a travel agency. I couldn't decide if I hated accounting or just my employer, so i went to law school.

Since I am abandoning Baton Rouge for Pensacola sometime soon, I checked Florida numbers. Not one city in the negative, and most of the top 20 or so are cities in Florida.

13.28 inches in Spanish Fort just reported.
we left Loxley AL about 5:30 p.m. and drove to Baton Rouge. It must have been bad because going over the bay, people drove 15 mph in the left lane next to someone driving 15 mph in the right lane, but they all had their parking flashers on, so it was ok.
