Yesterday I met a client and a mortgage broker at this Mexican restaurant.
I was trying to be nice and social with this employee after a few minutes into the one sided conversation he said “no English” lol

The one right by my house closed down last weekend.

They must have been associated with the cartel that lost 3.5 tons of coke near New Zealand.

We do a little work for the proprietor of a Mexican restaurant. He's very wealthy, I'll say that.

We had a Chinese restaurant in our town whose owner was the daughter of a shipbuilder in China. There was a chain of them. Pretty sure it was a means of offshoring his wealth.

I don’t know about laundering but have a hunch a lot of the staff are paid in cash.

And the best ones are typically in old shopping centers, next to a Big Lots or antique store.

I've never seen a pizza joint shut down either.

Or a McDonalds.

I once saw a ChickFilA shut down, but it turned out they were just bulldozing it to build a bigger one on the same lot.

Mexican restaurants around me are always packed and I'd imagine the operating costs are pretty low for a restaurant. 80% of the menu is different combinations of beef and tortillas

If the place doesn't accept payment cards and has an ATM inside, it's laundering money and pocketing your sales tax.

ETA: I once saw visiting management at the local establishment. He made Tuco look like a pussy.
