I sell some things to El Paso. Started with one location in Pensacola in 2016, they now have over 100 locations. Everyone I talk to there is scared shitless of the owner. Always thought they were linked to the cartels

Ah, and only a $4 fee to use it. Oh, and my bank may also charge a fee... hmm.

I think Mexican places owned by white guys are excluded

Same here. Seems they are opening a new place every couple of weeks.

Ever seen a Mexican restaurant close down?
Yes, lots of them. And these are the more authentic ones, not the American chains

El Papi or whatever it was in Denham Springs closed

I've never seen a pizza joint shut down either.
Can't remember if it was anything more than tax fraud. I liked their pizza.

Hot Take: Most Mexican Restaurants Are Money Laundering Fronts For The Cartel
I mean they usually have the cheapest drinks out of any restaurant.

They close down all the time around me. It's the shitty chains like Mi Cocina and Matt's that won't go away.

Good God that buffet food looks awful. Is that Velveeta?

No, but they’re probably frequently staffed by illegals. I can’t spit in this city without hitting a taqueria. They come and go all the time. There’s some local chains where the family has about a dozen locations nearby, and those folks are pretty wealthy.

Had a friend that was the K9 cop in town and he pulled over one of the owners brother for something and his dog hit around the tailgate area but his boss just happened to pull up and let him go saying the dog probably just had a false hit.
Same owner I just happened to be eating at his restaurant with another friend and he came out said let’s go to a club. He knew my friend so we went out. The owner got hammered drunk and on the way home he said I just met one of the biggest drug dealers in the area at the strip club. Everybody else was drunk except me I was driving so nobody else paid him any attention.
I’ve always thought he’s got more going on than a couple Mexican restaurants and after those instances I’m pretty sure he does.

El Rancho on Florida is still going strong.

That was the best Mexican place in BR, excluding any fine dining options that may have been available.

I recommend El Magey. It's very similar but slightly fancier.
I love EL Magey but it’s expensive as hell. Last time I was there, they charged my 2 toddler children kids meal and it was $8 each. Haven’t been there since. I’d go if I’m alone though.

They also have a location in Watson and one over Bass Pro in Denham. Very underrated place

My uncle got rear ended in front of a Mexican restaurant by a busboy/waiter who was late to work. A few minutes later some dude came out with an envelope with $5k and asked if that would be enough to settle up the damages without any "paperwork" - LOL. My uncle said sure since the old van he was driving probably wasn't worth that anyway.
