So after all expenses that include two vacations, maxing their 401k and very generous living, they STILL have 5700 left per year they can save on top of all that?
Not even considering matching in their 401k, that means in 20 years they will have gone on 40 vacations and still have more than $1M banked
I'm not complaining. Live the good life but LOL at the paycheck to paycheck concept

I guess everyone down here does. Absolute lowest I have heard is $35,000. I do know of one couple that has done the au pair program, but they had a MIL house.

They aren't maxing out their 401k

Also, $700k is a lot of mortgage for someone with $200K income unless they can be frugal elsewhere. They need to move out to Oakland and get a $500K house.
Actually, it kinda shows that they can afford it pretty easily. As others have stated, they have 20k+ in disposable income after some generous estimates.

They are hiring the wrong women. These nannies take cash and speak broken English.
There are 3 on my street with them

Seems low if you are factoring in two vehicles.
Maybe one of them rides one of those little trains from the Rice A Roni commercials.

I’m so jealous of their car insurance budget
I only pay about $150 more per year for two cars and two of us driving. In Louisiana with some of the highest rates in the nation.

Maybe so. All of these folks had 24-28 year old women. I believe they had completed college as well. I assume they wanted to go the proper route and withhold taxes, etc...

That makes sense, because the writer of this piece didn't try to make these numbers realistic.
Which numbers do you find unrealistic for San Fran?

I didn't read through the whole thread, because it's 19 damned pages, but I didn't see anywhere in the article where it stated they were living paycheck to paycheck. In fact, I believe he stated several times that they are very comfortable. I took the article as more of, letting people know that if you make 200k you aren't exactly rich.

No. These people have no concept of scraping by.

Mainly because these people don't exist and it's a fictional spreadsheet.

So they are loading up their 401k
Own a house
Take 8k worth of vacations
live in a 700k home
And still have money left over
Whats the issue?

You're the unicorn I guess because most of your fellow posters aren't getting those rates.

they aren't even close to maxing out their 401k (dual income). when you consider all the things the budget is lacking, the vacations don't seem out of line. Change that line to read vacations/holidays/weekend adventures. Ya'll are hung up on the child care thing, but you hit that easily in LA with two kids in private, before/after care (again dual income), and summer camps

Please do start. I'm always entertained by the baws clutching their pearls in threads like this.
I'm sorry you were upset. Do you think that the budget in the OP is reasonable?

You're mistaken. I'm not upset, I'm laughing at you.
I find some numbers reasonable, yes.
