I don't think $1000 a month for groceries for a family of 4 is off at all. Pretty average if you ask me.

I have a family of 4. We spend about $700-800 per month on groceries alone in BR. I'm sure food is more expensive in SF.

Me and the wife brown bag it 3-4 days per week and go out to eat maybe once or twice per month as a family. That puts us over 1k easily.

Their effective tax rate is wildly overstated. They’re only in the 28% marginal bracket at their stated gross income, and that’s before any deductions.
Correcting that fixes their entire budget.

You sure? I know two couples with a nanny that pay roughly $40k. Each couple only has one kid. I’m pretty sure that doesn’t include cooking or cleaning. FWIW, New Orleans.

They live in Cali. Total taxes likely over 30%

I make decent money and have way less bills than them. I don't know where the money goes. It's crazy.

The article states this is a fictional couple. That makes sense, because the writer of this piece didn't try to make these numbers realistic.

Then they’re choosing to way overpay. You don’t need a certified teacher with a master’s degree to change your toddler’s diapers.
