Weird. He still has a place here and houses the Dominator and equipment. Guess he goes to Colorado when storm season is over until the spring?

Are those what people call hot towers? And what exactly does a hot tower mean? Trying to learn
A hot tower is somewhat like watching a nuke go off from space..
it's not that dramatic, but that should give you a good idea of what it means..

The CDO (red in image) is massive - about 250 miles north to south. Even at 20 mph it will still be about 12 hours of storm for the areas that get the brunt of it.

Evacuating ATL, really?! They're in more danger driving to Clemson.

Sounds like it’s to be near family
We considered “evacuating” Atlanta for…Atlanta (to my parents with fewer trees)

Newland isn't that far from Boone.
Samaritan's Purse is based there; they may not have far to go for their next disaster relief project.

Yes and I don’t mean this to sound terrible to those in the path but it’s beautiful in a scary way.

Help me out a bit with the radar image. What is the red indicating? Wind speed? Heavy rains?

That's a mean convective burst in tbe northern eyewall. That's just five minutes of lightning strikes. The plane wanted no part of it.

For the east side of the Smokies, WLOS in Asheville has some pictures as well as a link for road closures.
That they are reporting flooding along the French Broad (not that unusual although a massive flood in the early 1900's is still remembered) just means that much more water to flow into Tennessee via the French Broad until it meets up with the Holston River above Knoxville.

Eastern Tennessee is definitely going to have severe flooding an road issues. Going to be lots of washed out areas.

Yep. They were even more apparent a couple frames before that.

is this a good time to remind homeowners that mudflows and mudslides are perils covered on a flood policy, not homeowner policy.
