I’ve always found it interesting that Louisiana has a native black bear population. I think most people, when they think of black bears, they think of the Smokies in Tennessee. We’re known for alligators, but the bears roam the swamps too. Have you ever seen one up close and in person?

Saw one in Louisiana once but it was an Arkansas black bear not a Louisiana one. It was tall.

Had one at the bottom of my deer stand years ago. When he realized there was a human in the stand, he ran like hell.

Saw one walking down the cart path on 18 at Black Bear golf course in Delhi. Guess the place is appropriately named.

There was a black bear that got hit in the 90s, LSU vet school nursed it back and put a tracker on em. Had some LSU students and their professor come get his scat and other markings off our property.

I have not. I did see a big black bear early in the morning in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg just last year. I kinda panicked when I saw it but it didn't give a damn about me when it saw me. I think he/she is used to humans in that area. Some friends in the area at the same time had left their vehicles unlocked, and a bear or bears got into the vehicles and tore them up. They're beautiful animals but terrifying to me.

A few in Concordia parish, some driving and once from a deer stand which was pretty cool.
Got to watch it for about 30 minutes.

See them all the time in Tensas Parish, especially around Somerset. It’s not far from the tensas river national wildlife refuge. They started relocating them years ago there and now they have become a nuisance. Know the people that own the farmland there and I can take you anytime of the year and show you multiple bears on their property. Most I’ve seen in a day was 15 different bears.

Yes. About 5 years ago I had one run across the road in front of me. A few days later Facebook blew up with locals posting about seeing a bear, bear killing chickens, etc.

Not sure what ever happened to ole Yogi.

FYI Alexander State Forest area.

We had one a couple of years ago that the game wardens had to come and relocate. It had been previously tagged and based on that, it had swum the Mississippi River at some point.

Yes. A cub. Didn't see the mama though

ETA: I'm in Richland Parish. They are here, but not as much as Tensas or Madison
