New York isn’t sending elderly that test positive for covid to nursing homes.

The virus may have mutated into a less lethal form....or the summer weather really is having an effect on it.
There could be several explanations but the only sure thing is that if that explanation is a positive development we won't hear anything about it.

I think 2 things are happening.
First, doctors have kind of figured out what treatments work. While there hasn't been a monumental breakthrough, through trial and error they've determined some treatments that help the fight.
Second, this current surge seems to be hitting younger, healthier people while the initial surge hit older people, or people already in poor health.
Just my theory.

it's just math. A larger population has now contracted the virus but within that larger population is a larger number of young, healthy individuals that are able to beat the virus. In the beginning, the virus wrecked hell on the older, weaker generation.

Simple, simple answer.
Those who are at risk are staying home and self-quarantining while those who are younger and healthy are getting the virus and basically getting it over with. Hence, fewer deaths.
And, this is what we SHOULD BE DOING RIGHT NOW. Let those who are young and/or healthy get it. The virus will then run its course. THEN, those who are at-risk will be able to get out sooner.
All college age kids who do not have an underlying condition should be getting exposed this summer, going through their 14 day quarantine, and then return to campuses this Fall. College campuses will be the safest places in America if we just allowed these kids to "get it over with." We can have doctors and professionals ready just in case a kid gets really sick to provide appropriate medical care.
But, that's WAY too much common f*cking sense.

My perspective is that there should be a distinction between cases and positive tests.
To me a case, is when someone has symptoms and is sick and require medical treatment.
As others have cited, many young healthy people are testing positive because they have developed antibodies and are asymptomatic.

Something like 40% of US deaths are nursing home patients. Cuomo and his fellow govs in the northeast put the fox in the henhouse by sending positive cases back to the homes. They should resign in shame. No other state will come close to those fatalities because they are doing what we should have done from the start: protect the old folks and let it spread among the young and healthy so we achieve herd immunity.

Is there any scientific data to suggest this virus will just "run its course"? There are reports of people contracting it twice, and there is also data showing people that have had it having negative antibody tests. I know some of the antibody tests are junk, so not putting much weight in that. And not really arguing your point, just curious if there has been any hard data to show this will just run its course and everyone can get back out and go on with their lives. Everything I've seen has predicted another surge this fall when cold and flu season arrives.
