Yah, I'm not stealing that crap. Even when I stay at a hotel with the free breakfast, I usually go find a restaurant to eat at.

For all their issues, European hotel breakfast blows us out of the water.

No kidding

The breakfasts I got at my hotel in Dublin and Athens/Santorini for free would’ve cost me 60-80 bucks here.

I refuse to believe we can’t do better here, but I guess that video identifies part of the problem.

I don't think most midgrade hotels care too much unless the person is obviously a smelly bum or something.

Yeah. Pretty sure they just put out whatever they have and when it’s done it’s done. They don’t care who’s eating it and I doubt they are putting extra out anyway.

It shocks me more hotels don’t put the cafeteria in a room you need key card access

I was in Glendale last year for work. Hotel had the typical breakfast. But this hotel had a sign “please place your room card on the table next to your plate”. A hotel employee came up to me to check for my room card when it was covered up by my napkin.

Figured they had a crasher issue. Haven’t seen this at any other hotel.

Honestly, most hotels where you could get away with doing that, the breakfast quality is now so bad, that nobody would do this. Most that are not complementary have some bit of monitoring (I.e. they have to bring you a coffee cup, etc.)

It doesn't matter how shitty the breakfast is that is the point. It's that bumb arse pieces of shits are ripping the hotels off and costing the honest patrons the opportunity to eat the bad breakfast they paid for.

I know a guy who does this. He says he's gone to the hotels before, kept the key card, and then when he's back in the city since he stays at nicer hotels - would drive there if it's nearby to eat breakfast and then leave. He has the key card on hand soooks like he's a guest.

Personally that's stupid for a 4 dollar breakfast.

This was awhile back.. 8-10-12 years ago.. In Houston and we were staying at.. Is it the Lancaster? It was one of the hotels a flew blocks from the Astros stadium... Whatever its called today. The day we were leaving we went eat breakfast, complimentary breakfast and where we were sitting I could see the line of people getting coffee, etc.

I saw one of the ladies who worked there go up to some guy who had just fixed his coffee and appeared to go in line for food. I was being nosy and sort of kept an eye on it because she sort of walked fast to him. Anyway, he said in a loud voice "No ma'am I will not!" she walked off and a guy who worked there went up to the man. I don't know what he told the guy, but he got out of line and sort of stormed off, but.. I guess some type of manager said pretty loud "Sir, I am going to need you to throw that coffee away". The guy did and was in an uproar.

I remember the guy had slacks with a long sleeve button up shirt and it looked like his clothes never touched an iron before. The table on side of us asked one of the waitresses (well they don't take your order.. They pour you water and check on you).. And I heard her say something about he was a frequent flyer. Something about management noticed him on camera a few times.. At least that's what I remember, but that breakfast isn't "complimentary". Its cooked into the hotel price.

Its like points on a credit card. You think they are just giving you free money? No, but its good marketing.. Anyway, I don't think its going away homie. There will always be idiots like this. And people like this make it easy to ID because they video themselves doing it.

Won’t go away. I can see hotels making the breakfast area accessible by key card.

I don’t eat that shite 90 percent of the time when I’ve actually paid for it.

Anytime I'm at a Hampton I go right for the bag of processed snack foods plus the apple because of how shitty their breakfast is. Sometimes I wonder if the bags aren't for the customers while the powder eggs and micro bacon isn't a honeypot for poors.

These complimentary breakfasts are terrible.

It won’t hurt my feelings. I only occasionally eat there except out of guilt… “but it’s free”

I have no problem requiring a key card for this or really for anything. Lock the street people out. If this is a way someone is gaming the system, cut it off. I don't want to go to a hotel where just anybody can walk in if they want to anyway.
