It is definitelty going to be something to keep an eye on with the river not being able to drain into the lake tomorrow.

Yep. Lakeshore Dr in Mandeville as well. Storm surge is going to be a major issue all the way to Slidell.

LSU reopened a week or 2 after Gustav. I was a commuter and every single traffic light leading to campus was out and you can imagine the cluster that was. They did not give a frick.

I rather ask an idiot like you so I know to do the opposite. You couldn’t find your arse with both hands.

The retention pond near where I live in Mandeville already has quite a bit of water from last week.

Praying for my BR baws. 85mph winds isn't devastating but is isn't fun either.

It's no joke in an urban area with a heavy tree canopy. There will be big challenges moving around for a while. Lots of blocked roads, tree limbs on houses, and down power lines. Maybe some localized flooding too depending on the rainfall.

But you are right - they should be back to normal pretty quickly. This is nothing that area can't handle. We are lucky the storm isn't intensifying very much.

This track is about as bad as it could be for Baton Rouge - I hope we never see a Cat 3, 4, or 5 make a direct hit like that.

I keep telling myself the track is just the center of the cone.

Or...is the cone centered on the track....

So looks like the eye is right over BR. Nola will get pounded as will Slidell it looks like
Why would Slidell get "pounded" if the eye passes over the eastern side of BR at 80 Miles away?

Just out of curiosity, how often does the NWS update their local forecasts on their website? I like the wind graphs but want to make sure I’m not looking at something old.

Good to see the intensity models tame a bit.

LSU used to be pretty reluctant to close

I was just leaving my last class of the day when the first band of Hurricane Rita smacked us. Wasn't super serious like it was west of Baton Rouge, but it was powerful enough to knock out the power and flood some of the surrounding streets.

And they frequently classes in winter storms when the local government closes.

Would you say that BR is better managed than Houston?

You’ll be fine. By the next update you’ll be on the west side of this thing.

This is from my nephew who works at Fox Weather in NYC.

He sent this to me around 10:20 a.m. today.

- Official forecast is to move directly over Baton Rouge.

- Timing pushed back to around 7PM Wednesday.

This may be helpful. Or it may not. You get to decide.
