The ironic thing is this type of stuff is driving up housing prices, gentrifying neighborhoods, and other things that the Americans who are likely leaving claim to disavow over here.

Also, the Spanish and Portuguese citizens have had some pretty significant protests due to over tourism in recent years, never mind people actually moving there and taking up limited space permanently.

The people who do not appreciate how great America is can kindly go somewhere else. Quickly. Please. Move faster if it wouldn't be too much trouble, kind sirs/madams/howeverthefricks.

Clooney has been unusually blunt about what the move represents: a bet that his children would have a “much better life” in a country where fame matters less, privacy laws are stronger, and childhood can be more ordinary than it would be in Los Angeles.

So he left behind the Dem utopia that he helped to create?

How brave of him.

The funny part is that you can’t even denounce US citizenship without paying out the arse. Owe taxes to us and your new country. Would be cost prohibitive for a normal person

Using George Clooney as an example is ridiculous.

His wife is not American. And he claims to have left to avoid his children living as famous people in Hollywood - which is a legit reason IMO, like him or not.

This is terrible news!

First Madonna, now George Clooney!

America is going to run out of over-aged, semi-talented half-wits!

How is our great nation going to survive?

As soon as a place becomes “cool” it is not cool anymore. This is a lesson I’ve seen repeated over and over again in my life. Once everyone thought Austin was cool, it wasn’t cool anymore. Once everyone thought Nashville was cool, it wasn’t cool anymore. Every great bar I’ve gone to that’s become popular has gotten less cool. Maybe once all of these people leave, we can actually start to do and build cool things again.

This is only true for white liberals. Everyone else is still risking life and limb to get here.

And the incentives!

Carrot - self-deporting cash bonus of $1,000 ( I think that’s the amount)

Stick- we’ll deport you anyway, and you won’t be able to re-apply for entry at a later date.

But are people giving up actual citizenship or doing the BS dual citizenship deal? If the latter, then it is just for show.

Want to leave? Then burn the ships and go.

Trying to be cool is the most shallow pursuit a person can go after.
