...don't taxes and regulations affect overhead costs, which affect labor expenses? I'd also be interested to see marginal productivity between workers when regulatory burdens are accounted for.

It's not enough to account for how woefully poor much of the Mexican populace is which makes it easy for a company to offer them dirt cheap wages.

The only way companies stop moving factories to place like Mexico is if it's working class becomes large and economically successful enough to tell bossman to shove those low wages and piss poor working conditions up their asses.

Unfortunately for them, the company will just find the next poor as frick country to move production to if that ever happens.

I would look to blame the UAW and their demands for unreasonable high wages. They are a union and difficult to work with. I'm surprised it took them this long to move.

Unions have no place in today's workforce and will and have resulted in more and more jobs moving overseas.

What do you do? I'm sure somewhere in this world of 7 billion people some little Mohammed or Patel or Bong Bo Li is willing to do it for less.

Should your job go to them?

Do you realize that if all the decent paying jobs are outsourced then your children will have very few decent paying ones left?

Pretty much this: even though this probably belongs on The Political Board. It's not even about the very high wages that UAW members earn,compared to other U.S. workers.

The UAW has rules about things,that kill efficient plant operation,like strict job descriptions,that don't allow an employee doing a very simple job,to be used at a different very simple job,when there is a need. Can't use a drill press operator,to replace a punch press operator,if the punch press operator is out,even if 5 drill press operators are hours ahead,hanging out in the break room,and still being paid.

I knew an UAW employee,that was caught stealing tools from work twice,and The UAW got his job back for him. The 3rd time he was caught,he did lose his job,but was able to keep his insurance and other benefits. He died of a drug overdose several years ago.Many others that would almost never work,but somehow were drawing full paychecks.

G.M. closed the plant where they worked a few years ago,and most people that I knew that were employed there got retired,but I couldn't tell any difference.

I am not anti-union,but the UAW's contract with the U.S. Auto makers,is probably too confining,to be able to build an inexpensive car here.
