You would be amazed at what they save I terms of duty fees alone. VW has been doing this for years.
frick the American worker! All about that bottom line

You do know that the highest cost is just labor. Union or no Union. Also, our regulations and other costs are much lower than Japan or Germany. It's just labor that costs so much and so we move to the lower cost producer. You should know this. This is simple economics.
Exactly. People here going on about corporate tax rates? Come on. Ford isn't moving their headquarters.
It is about manufacturing costs vs. transportation costs. If Ford gains more by using cheaper labor than they lose by having to ship materials to and finished products from an ex-US site, they will move there. Corporations have a duty to maximize profits for their shareholders.
This is capitalism's response to the high cost of living that comes along with American prosperity.

Don't forget. It was German engineering and Mexican know-how that brought us the first car priced below $200: The Adobe.
Lots of folks talked about the Yugo and Hyundai back then, and that was fine if you had $3,000 or $4,000 to throw around on a car.
Adobe: The little car made of mud.

Sorry, but it makes you watch a short commercial first.

I bet 1 Messican can built a Ford by himself in 100 degree heat in 30 minutes.
Those folks are machines.
I have 250 of them working for me...best workers ever! On time everyday, don't complain about the heat or conditions...just happy to make a paycheck. Great people to work with.

I have never bought a ford and I would not drive one that was made by the unskilled labor force in Mexico. Even if they gave it to me. Car QUALITY is of most importance. You will not get that from cars made in Mexico.

I would look to blame the UAW and their demands for unreasonable high wages. They are a union and difficult to work with. I'm surprised it took them this long to move.
Unions have no place in today's workforce and will and have resulted in more and more jobs moving overseas.
100% Yup

Now I agree with this....... Unions suck and they destroyed the auto market in Michigsn. When I got out of HS in 1978 working the assembly line was THE shite.... If you had the right connections you were sitting pretty. But as time went on the unions got more and more greedy and the workers ended up not caring as much. That's why from like 1981 on the JAPS were making way better cars than Americans.....

Don't you drive a 1998 Nissan Sentra?
How sympathetic to the Japanese were you when all those foreign factories started to operate here. I'm guessing the plant moved down there for assembly. It probably helps the US/Canadian part makers long term.

Overseas car workers>>>>>>>>> American car workers.... I wish it was the opposite but it's not.

This is nothing new.
My friend worked at the car distribution lot at the base of the bridge in Port Allen. This was 20 years ago and 100% of those "domestic" vehicles were coming from Mexico.

I think it's funny people are acting like Ford is the only one doing this.

Bull fricking shite. The car companies get millions and billions in corporate bailouts/welfare. Labor's cheaper and they don't have to give out the benefits. Americans want luxury and with gas being cheaper bigger cars. They make more money. It's business not charity. They'll still collect their handouts though. The American voters are to blame for this shite

Well, looks like I wont be buying a Ford anytime soon. The great thing about capitalism is that the company is free to do what they want, and I'm free to give my money to another company.

You laugh but that exact car just 20 years ago cost around $7K-$8K. Its double that now.
