This is what fricking happens when you tax companies into oblivion, force healthcare that NOBODY can afford to pay for, have dumbass regulatory entities in place like the EPA that's nothing more than a shakedown artist, and try to raise the minimum wage up to $15, oh and like others have said, the unions which are fricking awful. Hell, they probably see the writing on the wall with Trump and Clinton. Trump is gonna try and bring back Hooverism and protection through tariffs, which will not get jobs back. And Clinton will be even further left than Obama.

Can someone explain to me why car companies such as Toyota, Hyundai, and Mercedes Benz can build cars in the US and be profitable, while Ford cannot?
I chose Toyota, Hyundai, and Mercedes as examples because they all have visible factories near major US interstates that I have seen in Mississippi and Alabama. There maybe more car companies in more states, but I haven't seen them myself.

A globalized economy isnt a problem in and of itself. The problem with the way we are doing things is that there is a huge inequality in the reciprocity of job creation from foreign companies on US soil.
Th US is the biggest consumer per capita in the world, but unless something changes pretty soon, there won't be enough high paying jobs for people here to buy these companies' goods.

Yea they were very much a necessity at one point in time. These days, they're a disaster. I've worked with a union crew or two in my day and they were generally some lazy miserable dead weight frickers.

It's an insidious cycle. We have enjoyed a vast difference in the quality of life (and difference in money) from a majority of the rest of the world (not including Western Europe), and this coupled with the opportunity to move production results in businesses taking advantage of the availible cheap labor. This has been happening and this Ford move is just a high profile case......and it will continue.
Many higher paying, blue-collar jobs are being lost and will NOT return. American greed and unions have fueled this and neither will ever go away.
I fear the day that the educated classes from these poor areas of the world (I.e. India) realize that they just need to stay home and the jobs will come to them. Consider that Americans are fading in enrollment in the sciences/engineering curriculum and it's a plausible scenario. Hell, several huge engineering firms actively engage support from these areas now.
There's a bigger wheel turning folks.
Many higher paying, blue-collar jobs are being lost and will NOT return. American greed and unions have fueled this and neither will ever go away.

Probably because The UAW got a chokehold on Ford,back in the 60s and 70s,when times were great for American Built Cars.They Haven't let up the pressure,and Ford Hasn't been able to shake it.
The companies that weren't building cars here back then,don't have those same types of deals with the UAW.
When The Mustangs,Torinos,Cougars,Galaxies,Cyclones,and even Falcons and Mavericks were selling as fast as you could make them,Ford would do anything to avoid a production shutdown.
