For those of you with kids graduating, there’s an ideal way to show you love them

When his or her name is called, yell so loud and for so long that you drown out the name of the next graduate announced.

Get excited. Be proud of your graduate.
Now the tough part…
Have poise. Respect that you are not the only people in this world. Honor the next family’s turn. Take turns. If missed this in kindergarten, now is your chance.
When ceremony is over, hug the chit out of your graduate as loud as you want. Enjoy!

I jump up on the guard rails and twerk until nobody is watching the grads because of course, it’s all about me!

That's what we do. Then we take the fam to Applebees and fight the wait staff.

Airhorns. Bring your airhorn and blow it 30 time consecutively

Try like 10-20.
Then multiply that by the number of families.
Then enjoy spending your entire day listening to screaming and cheering with the occasional name being announced.

Dutchtown called the students in order of GPA ranking.
The loudness definitely increased as the GPA's decreased.
ETA: they switched to alphabetical order once the GPA was below 2.0

How else are we supposed to let Daquon and Shaniqua know that we are proud of them for only taking two extra years to get their diploma after living the first few years of their lives with Nana, spending six months in jail for holding that gun for Shawty, missing second semester finals in her first 10th grade year because of complications from the abortion, and the fact that they got suspended because they slapped that white supremacist history teacher that didn't include George Floyd and Breonna Taylor on the black history month curriculum?

It helps when you don’t send your kid to such a trashy school

TBH, I go back and forth between being annoyed and feeling empathy for them.
I think, “what is going on with your kid, to where you’ve set your expectations so low that you cheer like you’ve won the lottery when they graduate high school”? You’re supposed to expect this to happen.
Maybe we just suck at celebrating, idk. But we clapped, hugged afterwards and went to eat and that was that.

It actually doesn’t because I’ve seen it at affluent schools and schools in the hood.
“Me me me” culture knows no society-economic status and frankly, sometimes it’s worse for the wealthier families. Money tends to make you more of what you are.

You can find them celebrating afterwards at the nearest Waffle House or Popeyes.
