I have been following along for the past 2.5 years as many others have. This post yesterday by Kiran Chawla (WAFB) took me by surprise.

quote:

STATUS UPDATE FROM THE TULLIER FAMILY THIS COMES FROM NICK'S DAD, JAMES TULLIER AND HE ASKED FOR ME TO PLEASE PUT THIS OUT STRESSING NO ONE IS MAD OR UPSET. I guess it’s time to address the elephant in the room. Questions keep being asked. Some might think we should have said this earlier, but we had our reasons for not. Yes, Danielle moved out of the apartment in Nov. She had/has her reasons, nothing of which had/has to do with us. She’s young and is moving on with her life. Before we moved to Houston/TIRR with Nick, Mary and I both had discussions with Danielle and her mom about the downsides of Danielle continuing on with Nick. We explained then that Danielle is young with a long life to look forward to. Nick on the other hand, we said had a very long road ahead of him to whatever recovery he could achieve. We both told them no one would have problems with her just moving on. Move to the near present: Mary and I both saw signs mid last year that made us question of changes possibly on the horizon. Early this past fall, Mary found out Danielle’s intentions first hand when Nick was being interviewed by his psychologist. Nick understood and basically said ok. Disappointing to us? Yes. Mad? No way. Danielle has done way more than we could have expected. She definitely helped/helps motivate Nick to continue to fight, work, struggle. And to make sure it’s understood, this wasn’t about money as all expenses were taken care of. People have offered to sit with Nick. Though we appreciate those that have volunteered their time, it’s a little more difficult than just sitting and giving basic care. Nick has to be watched for lung & trach issues which could cause suctioning of the trach, lots of times including putting a tube down thru the trach into his wind pipe. Needless to say, training required. Other issues include the possibility of seizures and knowing what to do, ostomy bag busting (yes this happens more than you might think in a very short time period), dealing with urine containment, and POSTURING. Trying to determine the possible causes requires knowing Nick’s conditions, reactions and habits. Since moving out, Danielle has visited some and helped us out when we really needed it. Presently, we’re paying her as a part time helper. Someone is going to get paid for assistance, but would need a learning curve to come up to speed with Nick’s problems. Danielle obviously already knows what to do for the various problems that crop up and has our full trust. We don’t want anyone feeling bad about Danielle. She’s been with Nick and us since this terrible event happened. He continues to enjoy her visits. This ongoing story is not and has not been about me, Mary, or Danielle. Are we all affected? No answer necessary. But, Nick and other LEO’s is what this ongoing story is all about. He didn’t ask to be shot in the Line of Duty during the ambush of Law Enforcement Officers in Baton Rouge, July 17th, 2016. He didn’t ask for the political climate that preceded the tragic event. He didn’t ask for politicians and community activists cranking up a situation that caused the loss of life of LEO’s in Dallas, Texas and then Baton Rouge, Louisiana ten days later. Life has forever been changed for families that only wanted to live normally, enjoy togetherness, watch the kids grow up, all while the loved ones Served and Protected. Nick Tullier Strong

I guess my main question is what purpose does it serve to put Danielle out there like this? Why does the thousands of followers need to know she is moving forward with her life? Something about the post made me feel terrible for her because of how this is being aired out in front of literally thousands of people. She was there by his side for over two years and it sounds like she still is, just in a different capacity. Just seems like that should be private among the family members.

Cliffs: Nick Tullier was a deputy badly injured in the August 2016 police shooting in Baton Rouge. His girlfriend Danielle has been with him during his recovery. Thousands of people nationwide follow this story on Facebook. Yesterday a long post about Danielle moving on with her life was released by a local news agency, but not by Danielle, but by Nick’s parents.

So making a thread about it here really seems consistent with what you wrote above

Nick Tullier was one of the baton rouge police officers involved in an ambush that took place 2 years ago following the Alton Sterling saga.

Danielle is/was Nick's significant other with benefits that included a diamond ring on her left hand.

It looks like nick wanted it addressed, as he is prob getting questions about it from people who see her doing her own thing

It was kind of weird, but all of those people are going through hell.

The only "reason" that I can think of is that there was a pic posted of Danielle using a swab to stimulate Nick's swallow reflex a few days back. The were a bunch of comments about how great Danielle was, how devoted she was, example of true love, etc. All I can figure is maybe it rubbed the father the wrong way or maybe he just wanted to clarify the situation. I don't know.

I don’t follow as closely as I used to but there was a post a couple of weeks or so ago with her & Nick & the majority of the comments were about people being glad to see her, asking where she had been....

Yea, my guess is there where a lot of questions so they wanted it addressed. I don't really see a big deal with it.

Well she is young and does have an entire life ahead of her. And they were not married. I’m sure she will always love him and will always be welcomed in that family but at the end of the day if she wants to move on she should be able to do so. Had they been married then that’s totally different.

People need to get the frick off of social media with this crap.. holy hell, I mean, I know it’s a BAD situation, but why the frick do people feel the need to put personal and family type business out there in the open for everybody to see?? I just don’t understand it

I’ve already told my wife that if something tragic happened to me, to NOT post much about it on social media. I don’t want her or anyone in my family to post minute by minute updates on Facebook. What fricking purpose does that serve except to draw attention to me and my family’s personal business and/or to feed the minds of the nosey arse people who can’t help but to stick their noses in other people’s business.. I’m probably an old and ornery grouch, but those people who get on fbook and cry and whine about wanting ‘thoughts and prayers for _____’ are attention whores who are only trying to shine the spotlight on themselves

The wives who do this when something happens to their LEO or firefighter husband are pathetic and childish IMO

there, I’m done with my unpopular opinion rant for the day.. I feel better now
