Note: the $300 I spent on the Owlet was well worth it. Wife was constantly waking up to check to make sure baby didn’t roll over on face it was breathing. Owlet is basically a pulse/ox for their big toe that will alert you when pulse or oxygen level drops.

Yep. If you have an extremely anxious or hyper wife (understandable for first time mother) this is a life saver. Gives incredible peace of mind especially since SIDS is a real issue

Truth. The time between holding him in your lap, taking a nap in the chair to him being 13 years old and giving you an eat shite and die look is short! :-)

Parenting is hard work, but I dig it. Three from 9-13.

I completely disagree with those in this thread who are saying it doesn't get better. It changed dramatically for me once they start sleeping through the night (week 10 - 12 or so). Everything after that is gravy, if you can handle non-stop energy and fricking with everything in sight for 13 hours a day.

I think people might have short-term memory loss on how shitty those first 6 - 8 weeks, especially on your first, can be in terms of sleep deprivation, not sure what you're doing, all that. Other than the occasional illness-induced 4 AM wake up, it ain't so bad once they start sleeping well.

You're gonna miss the burrito stage. I know I do. This is the easy stuff. Wait until they have opinions and their very own language to express it.

The first 3 weeks weren't bad, week 4 was bad because her sleep cycle kept changing. Then it would change around every couple weeks until 10 and settled down.

It gets better. I hated the baby stage and I am much more fond of the toddler stage and up. My son is 6 and my daughter will be two in October. She sleeps through the night most nights but still a couple of nights a week we have to get her back down. That 18 month sleep regression is a bitch. My son sleeps like a champ besides the other night when he woke us up at 2 am to get in bed with us. I told him no I will tuck you back in. He neglected to inform me that he had puked all over his bed. Nothing like spraying sheets off with a water hose at 2 am to get the blood flowing.

You’ll find every age has its pros and cons. As they get older they’re not quite as precious and sweet as but they are less dependent and more fun, can do more things.
Just get through it. You’ll barely remember the tough times years later.

Daughter did this around 7-8. Except it was after eating at a hibachi. So it was noodles and steak in a nice pile next to the bed because she just rolled over to the side.

Enjoy those times when they are young, when they start sleeping better it gets easier. My 2yr old son is my best bud, can be a bit whiny right now but overall is pretty good. Catching frogs, riding his bike and truck rides and he is content! Going to go explore Academy with him in a bit.

My wife had made spaghetti squash casserole dish that night. My sons sheets basically looked like someone dumped the insides of a pumpkin on his bed. My wife is a chain puker so she is gaggin at the smell so I just went and got some gloves and proceeded to clean it up before there were two piles to mess with.

The unspoken truth is that none of us are qualified or prepared to be parents, and we all muddle through. You’ll make it too.

Owlet was quite literally the ONLY reason my daughter wasn't put into the hospital when she had RSV at 2mo old.

INB4
“Dear Facebook”
Since she was born, I've bought my daughter cards for various occasions - birthdays, vacations, etc. I fill the inside of the card out completely, telling her about things as they are at that moment - what she got for her birthday, the report card she was proud of, the sleepover she just hosted, etc.

I finish each card, seal it, and write the date on the envelope. They're stacked inside of a gun safe and I'll give them to her at some point. Maybe college graduation, maybe her wedding. Whenever it feels like it's time. Maybe when she has a kid of her own. Maybe when I die.

Because I seal them, I can't go back and see what I wrote. It forces me to stay creative and focus on "the now". My hope is that it provides a window into her childhood that we all have, but sometimes they close. I hope the cards keep it propped open a bit for her.

No one in my family knows I do it. I've just confessed the most closely-held secret I have to the anonymity of the OT.

Month 6 or so it starts to click. Number 3 is in the oven, they'll all be two years apart. It gets better and you'll be able to handle more as time goes on.

Unless one can easily afford 24 hour help, I strongly advise against having children, despite the affection I have for mine.

You are getting a second job you have to pay to attend.

Travel well, eat well and relax. Children aren’t conducive to any of these.
