I love the World War II warbirds.

Fighter: Supermarine Spitefire

Bomber: Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress

My great-uncle, who passed away in 2009, was a B-17 pilot and flew his 35 combat missions with the 549th Squadron, 385th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force out of Great Ashfield, England, including two on D-Day. He flew the vast majority of his missions on the "War Horse."

My uncle, a Marine aviator, flew the Corsair in Korea and F4 Phantom in Vietnam. They were flying low over China for some reason at one point in the Corsair and his wing man asked him if he saw that Chinaman throw his pitch fork over my Uncle’s wing. One of my favorite old stories.

For pure ungainliness, the Martin B10 is hard to beat. Already obsolete by Pearl Harbor, they saw some action in the early months in defense of the Dutch East Indies. Ugly as sin, but was the test bed for a lot of design and technology later seen in more advanced bombers.

F4U corsair and it's not even close. Best looking warbird made thus far

ETA A-10 is probably the best plane this world has ever produced

Love the P51, but I watched a video on the Martin Mars a while back and went down the rabbit hole. These things are so cool, the largest flying boat ever operated commercially. I love big seaplanes like the Mars and the old Pan Am Clippers. There are still 2 of the Mars planes in existence that were used to fight fires in British Columbia until pretty recently.

(Check out the guy in the nose, for access to the mooring line)

Here's a walkthrough of it LINK

I also really like the Boeing Stratocruiser/C97 Stratofreighter, the Dehavilland Comet, and the Lockheed Constellation.

The first jetliner for commercial aviation and I still think the engines integrated into the wings make it one of the best looking airliners ever made

The Connie was a beautiful aircraft. Everyone was hoping that the Irish National carrier, Aer Lingus, would buy one. Then they could offer flights on the Connie Lingus...

Death Machines.

Cool lines, but fatal.

Fun Fact: In Japan, towards the end of WWII, Zero Fighter production was slowed because they had ordinarily used oxen to tow finished Zeroes from the factory to the nearest airfield and something happened to all of the local oxen.
