That is more than the city spends annually putting on Mardi Gras.

Charge the people putting on the Mardi Gras parades, but pay the people putting on Essence Fest.
Makes sense

Pay them that to keep it out of NO!

Teedy would have greenlighted it yesterday and let somebody else deal with it a handful of years later.

Let ‘em take it to the ATL.

It’s a good thing NOLA doesn’t have 2 nickels to rub together.

the company that puts on the festival didnt even pay vendors until well after the festival ended right? this is straight up extortion. and you know they'll cry racism if they dont pay up. essence is a joke.

Well...bye! However, when will NOLA restaurants close for cleaning and renovations? During the Bayou Classic?

No thanks. We had Freaknic for years. Let's send it to Mobile so they can claim they started it like Mardi Gras.

How about no and just pull the plug on this worthless event.

at least moreno responded like an adult...
none of that happens with latoya, whose only demands were free tickets and comp bar tab

But in her letter responding to the Essence proposal in March, Moreno said she was concerned that the festival was on track to repeat the same mistakes from 2025.
quote:
In her March letter, Moreno raised several points of concern for the 2026 event, including around programming and ticket sales. “By this time, I would have expected a jointly announced, committed lineup of leading, top-rated talent and reasonably substantial ticket sale,” Moreno wrote. “Instead of an early, effective marketing rollout, my team has been hearing concerning feedback from several vendors, partners and community members related to outstanding invoices.”
quote:also she set up a committee to get directly involved with execution of the festival
Moreno also requested a half-dozen immediate interventions, including an “independent, third-party verification” that all contractors had been paid and biweekly financial reports.

According to the article most of the money would come from the state, so they could expand it to Baton Rouge and the parishes around New Orleans.

From their website:
Squeezing as much out of the government and tax payers as possible definitely qualifies as one of the traits they're excellent at, so this tracks.

I know several black owned business whose owner quit doing business with them years ago due to this.

frick them and take it elsewhere. Don't even think that one is worth any tourist revenue, if it even brings any.

so they can pay vendor's from last year?

Shouldn't black excellence be celebrated where all the black excellence migrated to:
Minnesota, Michigan, and Chicago.
It's the beginning of summer and those places have proven they have money to toss around.

I don’t know if Moreno is really that stupid or if she’s just pretending to be

Citing rising operational costs as a reason sounds like they need to either tone down some of the extravagent expenditures or raise ticket prices.
If they can’t cover their expenses with ticket sales and corporate sponsorships, then sounds like its no longer a financially viable event.
