Sounds damn odd for the festival to ask the city to pay them. It may be totally normal, but I doubt it. Why not ask the businesses of New Orleans whst they think. They are really the only stakeholders!

The fact that it lost money last year and wants public money this year almost confirms it was always propped up with NGO money. State funded ism.

Now we know why they want to charge Mardi Gras riders to parade – so they can pay the Essence Festival scammers their extortion demands.

When you have to demand wages from the government because no business will willingly pay them because they can’t earn them legitimately, then that’s a “you” problem not unfair wages

Atlanta is better set up for it anyway and I mean no disrespect. It’s financially more stable and it has better infrastructure.

Moreno also requested a half-dozen immediate interventions, including an “independent, third-party verification” that all contractors had been paid and biweekly financial reports.

An event to celebrate black culture? No thank you! We have black fatigue!

It would save the Hot-lantians travel money and maybe they’d tip better

NOLA is broke, they had to take a early payment from the casino lease and give up almost 50 million to get it, if they pay this ransom to Essence it would be fiscally and politically damaging

Well yeah. Charge the whites. Give to blacks. Seems fair to me.

Question - in all seriousness - for the people who would know
Does the city or state pay organizers of things like JazzFest, FQ Fest, Mardi Gras parades, Sugar Bowl? I'm not talking about absorbing possible costs - like police fees - but make direct subsidies to these other events?

Should also put in there about how some acts took their time to get to the stage and the concerts went well into the early morning hours.
Nobody wants to go to a concert in the dome from the afternoon to 3:45 in the morning.
Plus what about all that overtime for Superdome vendors and stagehands managing shows.

we gather in New Orleans to celebrate Black excellence in all its forms.
That should take about 5 minutes, what do they do the rest of the weekend?

So 10-12 million on top of the damages they will cause? Or is that factored in?
