When I was a catastrophe adjuster, I'd often get 100 claims in a different city so nobody would answer some unknown number outside their area code. I'd have to contact everyone to schedule and very few would answer their phone on the first attempt. I had a text I would send out explaining who I was and to call me back. It was chaos trying to call people and then trying to field incoming calls/texts. I needed to schedule these people in a certain order so I was wasting time driving, it was a PITA.

Exactly.

Because I'd rather not deal with hear-say 2 weeks down the road when they say "you definitely said 15 of that item, not 25 of that item was what you wanted"

I don’t answer numbers I don’t recognize, if it’s important they’ll leave a message. Most people should understand this by now that most people probably do this.

85% of the calls I get are trying to fleece me.

No thanks.

I’ll hang up and listen.

numbers without a contact in my phone go straight to voicemail. You can thank spam calls for this.

The scammers are way out of hand.

The exception is that if you have good reason to expect a call you should answer. Also, make sure you have voice mail and check it.

Robokiller is good because it tells you to state the purpose of your call, so only a live caller can get through. Then if it's a scammer you can jerk them around and waste their time, although I haven't had one of those yet.

My time precedes cell phones, texts, and emails... when calls and letters were the only form of communication.

And still I believe most phone calls are unnecessary and can be handled via text or message.

Expecting someone to drop everything they're doing to focus on your needs is selfish. I prefer people leaving me an email or text so that I can focus on completing the task at hand, and then later giving you my undivided attention.

If I’m the PM of one of the subcontractors I figure you are calling wanting to know where my material is or why I don’t have enough men on the job. Whatever it is the chances are it isn’t good. So I defer.

Man, y'all think you know everything. Every person that I call has my number, and I'm not selling anything. Guess some of you have never coordinated work on the scale I'm referring to with the amount of people I'm dealing with.
this call could have been a text. You dont need to have a whole conversation with me for me to answer a question.

You sound like a micromanager.

Well I don't answer because 95% of my work calls are just the person wanting to hear themselves, probably someone like you, explain something that could have been an email and I like a paper trail.

I bet I make 40-50 work related calls every day

Not sure what type of work would require that but maybe you're just being an annoying POS that bothers someone every 3 minutes

I let the phone ring twice now before hanging up. Third ring and I know I’m being screened for whatever reason.

Half the time if it’s work related I’m really just calling to put the ball in someone else’s court anyway. Didn’t really expect to talk.

If your name is not in my contact list and doesn't show up on the phone. I'm not answering. Leave a message. Maybe I'll call.
