My electricity, water, sewer, and trash pickup is all in one utility bill and last month it was $190 for a 2500 sq-ft two-story. Two 3-ton AC units, my house is not terribly well insulated either. My AC units are running a lot but they are blasting cold air. Keep the systems clean and well serviced, so many people have filthy condensers and evap coils and have no idea how much harder that makes their systems work.

A storm restoration charge is the equivalent of owning an electrical company and being called to a house and having a flat tire on the way there and charging the client for a new tire. How is the infrastructure the consumers problem? If an AC goes out at Walmart does milk cost more?

I’ll be downvoted to hell, but the infrastructure upgrades are what have gotten the power back on faster after hurricanes than in the past. When a wooden pole goes down, it’s replaced with a metal or FRP and won’t be a problem again

Seems like it.
My last GA Power bill was $422, but that’s $0.185/kwh after fees. Seems like Entergy is cheaper than that in the summer.

Both ! They only earn a return in the base rate. They make nothing on fuel or recovery of fees and other expenses like storm recovery.

Entergy gets a guaranteed profit percentage on the base charges. The fuel adjustment and storm fees are at cost.
If a restaurant food costs go up, they can try to pass it on or eat it.
Entergy gets to pass it on.
Thus is why Entergy is not really concerned about fuel prices.
I’m thankful for my solar panels. Had the highest Entergy bill in 11 years this month… $240.

Mine sits at $300 total from about June through September with 2. It’s twice as much as when we were 4, before the kids grew up and moved out. Used to be $160, if that high. Water, too, has doubled and gas about $10 higher. Just wait until we start subsidizing the data centers. And probably somehow Space-X.

Did you see someone is sewing the water dept for a $1,000 plus bill when they were out of the country? It’s scam. I know someone who has a huge water leak on the parish side flowing into their yard and sidewalk and it’s so bad the front yard is flooded. Still not fixed. It’s a scam.

Entergy ought to invest in some hydroelectric power generation stations instead of always banking on coal, oil, and natural gas that can have wild fluctuations in cost.

A former PSC explained to me what his job really was and why he finally decided to get out. His real job was to manage increases in what utilities charged overall among other things. He called it the speedbump function
