Jefferson Parish's Council on Aging is similar in size to East Baton Rouge Parish in terms of population, budget and the people they serve. Robichaux says currently he has about 500 people on a waiting list, and he suspended any non-essential out of state travel so he could continue to serve the people in his parish.

"The mission of a Council on Aging is to take care of the elderly people in the community," Robichaux said. "We have to be their advocates. It's confusing to me as to what's happening in East Baton Rouge as to what our mission is."

They should all be put in jail.

Tarsha needs to see the inside of a jail cell

What else is left to find on them now?

Lol to you if you think government agencies taking tax dollars to take lavish trips for themselves is something only pertaining to Baton Rouge.
Since governments never have to meet a bottom line, they can essentially do whatever they want.

Right now, a number of COA Directors are gathered in Baton Rouge for their annual conference. It's a conference that goes over state happenings and last year they even conducted ethics training. Almost all of the 64 Council on Aging Directors across the state are signed up to participate. Tasha Clark Amar did not sign up even though this conference is in her own backyard.

I've worked with a number of state government divisions that during budget shortfalls or more pressing demands would institute a non-essential travel restriction.
In a case like this they would not go, or if they did, would send one staff member and that staff member would stay off site at a more budget friendly hotel.
This continues to further the point that this organization is only in existence to serve its employees and board, not the seniors they claim to support.

The per diem rate was $68 for this past year for chicago so that part makes sense. How you spend $12,000 total is beyond me. The reimbursable hotel rate is up to $175 a night. Even if they all had their own hotel rooms for 5 nights, thats $4375 + $1700 = $6075. They spent $6,000 on airfare for 5 people? Now that I'm calling bullshite on

Nothing to see here folks. You are all out of line for calling the COA out. This is perfectly fine and acceptable.
Nothing to see here.

How do you go about getting the job as director of BR COA? What qualifications does Tarsha have, what experience? Was this just a political favor to give her a nice job because her mother is a judge? Who hired her?

Probably conference registration and airfare.
And you can always request reimbursement for your meals at the amount spent if it's lower vs. the diem.

Do they have to follow state travel regulations? They're not a state agency, right?
