Oh, I agree. Just curious to see if they were reimbursed any additional funds that were technically not owed to them.
From what I can tell so far -
Hyatt Regency - 4,214.43 - Comes to 210.72/person/night
Meals - $1,750 - $70/person/day
Registration - $2,925 Appears to be $585/person
Which leaves a balance of $3,110.57. If that is all for airfare, then they paid $622.11 for the flights per person.
There is still one check totaling $2,933.75 that I can't tell who the payee is. (that could be the airline though, that would make sense)

Yeah I've never had to turn in receipts for meals and such covered on per diem, but for hotels and airfare, yes indeed

Eh you typically don't turn in receipts for per diem
I guess I'm reading the article wrong. They are saying there were no receipts for the per diems? That I can understand. I read it as there were no receipts for any expenses.

Are we at a point in our society where an elected official can literally steal from citizens that elected her/him and there are no consiquences?

Works until the torches, pitchforks, and rope come out.

So the issue here is that Dytarsha and her crew spent $12k on a Vegas vacation while seniors went without. Anybody that says Dytarsha is "doing good for seniors" needs to look at this story.

I don't think this deserves its own thread and it may have already been mentioned. But the protest that Gravy, Helmet Head, and Kibbles and Bits was poorly attended on Saturday. I talked to an officer today who worked the protest and said that only 16 people showed up. They had 25 police officers there. He said Gravy had to pay for the permit and the OT for the 25 police officers. I am pretty sure we could get more OTers out for a tailgate then Gravy can get out for his protest march.

Lol to you if you think government agencies taking tax dollars to take lavish trips for themselves is something only pertaining to Baton Rouge.
Since governments never have to meet a bottom line, they can essentially do whatever they want.
Oh, well, it is fine then.
Nothing to see here folks. You are all out of line for calling the COA out. This is perfectly fine and acceptable.
Nothing to see here.
I didn't condone it. In fact, it infuriates me to see this and all of the other abuses of tax moneys.
Two wrongs don't make any rights.
Unfortunately, I have heard of even worse abuses of tax dollars.

I think that part was strictly referring to their daily expenses
The WBRZ Investigative Unit obtained the majority of the expenditures through a public records request. But, where the five employees ate, what they spent their money on and more were not included since the Council on Aging had no receipts to turn over. Instead, each employee received almost $70 dollars per day for a per diem.

undoubtedly with a conference fee that high most breakfast/lunches were covered.

Yeah, misunderstanding on my part. Nothing to see here other than wasteful spending then. You can find this in most state agencies.

Good point and that's a violation if they got per diem for meals provided by conference

Actually, I just looked up the program for this years conference and lunch was only provided on Wednesday. I'm sure they netted that out of their per diem though...

A violation of what? What rules must they adhere to for travel?

The point here is this isn't the first time that COA has been busted abusing tax payer dollars while claiming they are "doing all they can" to serve the elderly.
In fact, in the last 2 months this is the 6th or 7th story of complete disregard for ethical and legal guidelines.

State ethics guidelines. If a meal is included in the conference package, you cannot claim a per diem for that meal as well.
Posted on 5/16/17 at 9:00 pm to PorkChops
Read up on it. If your conference fee includes meals, you have to deduct those from your per diem.
Bet that didn't happen. They just didn't know. LOL

Not sure they know the difference between shite and Shinola at this point.

It's just crazy that they felt the need to send this many people out of state for a stupid conference. Not surprising, but it still pisses me off.
I work for a top ten company in the world based on market value and they would kill us for trying to send people to a conference if it were not extremely important to our jobs.
