why would anyone want or need to learn how to drive a manual?

Because it's fun AF.

No Ferrari's or other exotics have manuals anymore.

That’s depressing.

Even automatic shifters are disappearing.. i recently rented a 2019 Ford Fusion, and in place of a shifter, there was simply a knob on the console that you turn from “D” to “R” to “N” etc.. i know that a lot of Dodge Ram trucks have gone to this as well.. the knob is not as satisfying as an actual shifter, and neither are as much fun as a stick shift.

Manuals are so much fun and so much better that nearly everyone opts for the automatic when given a choice!

I've never owned a car with automatic transmission.

If I didn't love my car then I would do this. I'm not letting some fool come and burn up my clutch for $50. Now, if I had an old Civic beater or something then I'd be all in.

Took my drivers test in a manual back in the 80's.

Guy said he hadn't seen that in a while.

One does teach another how to drive a 3 pedal car, they must seek knowledge from within.

Not true

Manuals are much cheaper and easier to find when renting in Europe.

otherwise would be a fun way to make side cash.

That you would have to spend replacing your clutch after it gets burned up

Love my manual car. Little thing is quick and makes driving fun. I’ve driven manuals forever though. Only owned one automatic SUV for a few years. Definitely a lost art but newer tech has really rendered them obsolete. The only real market in the states is for purists. Few manufacturers still offer it. I know Subaru, BMW M2,3,and 4. I think Aston Martin makes one. Ford, but the new GT 500 is only offered dual clutch I believe. Camaro and corvette before the new release had manual options.

No more 3 series manual, BMW manuals live on in the 2 and 4 series coupes. Aston's manuals are gone now.

I'd show up in some old sticks - three on the column 39 Buick with the turn signal on the shift lever.

The best transmissions to screw someone up are the GM 50's automatics that use "P - D - N - R" as the sequence.

There are a few around - some in surprising classes (such as the Hyundai Genesis G70). Car and Driver put together a list of 40 new cars available with a manual.

With the exception of my first car (oddly enough a '79 Supra with a 4-spd auto and 8-track player), all of my cars have been manual.

They had a news segment last night... the best way to keep your car from getting stolen is to buy a manual. The thieves don't know how to work them.
