life insurance rates

This isn't my experience. I retired from the Army a few years ago and their term rates for 1M policy on a late 40s guy were less than everyone else.

I've had USAA since 2003. started with home owners and auto at that time. I recently switched auto insurance to Progressive because it was significantly cheaper when we added my first child to our policy. I kept home owners and don't even shop it b/c I hear horror stories on here about home insurance. I've made one claim for a roof with them and it was an easy process. However, when I made my claim they handled in house. My mother made a claim more recently for a roof and it wasn't quite as smooth, and I found out during that process that it's a third party that handles the claims now. still not bad enough of an experience to switch

Been with them for nearly 30 years. Rates used to be great, but know is as high or higher than competitors. Service has always been great and that continues. A hail storm hit my neighborhood few years ago, USAA paid out immediately, while neighbors with state farm had to fight for months.

had to go to USAA when Farm Bureau went full retard on Homeowners ins. USAA was cheaper overall, but I intend to shop them before long. They aint cheap and customer service is good, but they are more about marketing than anything else.

I made a roof claim for hail last summer and it was exactly the same experience as my roof claim for hail in 2014. Paid immediately.

Everyone said it correctly.

Exceptional customer service, but their rates are some of the highest.

Car insurance was quoted 1.85 times higher than Progressive for the exact same comp coverage so I left USAA 3 years ago because of this. When I called to cancel, the rep was using his sales tactics to try and get me to stay (understandably), but hey man I’d rather pay $500 less per 6 months.

Nope. I've used them for years and now I'm looking for alternatives.

Seems to be tiered based on rank, and it doesn't necessarily translate to family members. My late SO's father was a retired Navy Captain. They treated him like royalty. Her, not so much.

Maybe not the lowest rates but in my experience great customer service and the renewals are the cheapest.

Join with just the banking relationship. Then they will be an option for insurance.

They were the only HO insurer I could get a quote from after Katrina, so there is some benefit to having access to their insurance.

I dropped their home and auto many years ago based on price. Maintain minimal banking to preserve the relationship.

Because it never happened.
In the 90s they opened it to all enlisted and their families, not just officers.

Service for claims has gotten bad in my experience over the 22yrs since I joined.

Alot has been outsourced and the agents are absolutely horrid.

Will be changing auto but keeping homeowners.

I have yet to have a better quote on insurance from them. I give them a shot each time but never use them

No. Maybe in the past but not anymore. I was 100% on the USAA train but have divested from them almost completely. I still have my checking and savings accounts, but their home insurance rates and vehicle financing rates are terrible.

They have good customer service but that's about it. They are surviving now off of their reputation of the past. That probably won't last much longer.

This. My employee reimburses us for auto insurance (cool perk), and I actually maxed out on the allocated amount, so I looked into it, and I was getting hosed. Like $100 a month hosed. It was funny explaining it to the very polite agent on the phone. She ran the numbers, and said, "Oh wow. Yeah I totally understand."

this is just a personal anecdote but I do sell insurance at an independent agency. just sold a USAA member a home policy with $1.12 million in replacement cost for $2200 and his 6 cars for a little over $200. This is central Alabama so your mileage may vary in other states. Ended up saving the guy over $2,000 a year between home and auto switching from USAA. We've been writing a ton of Allstate home policies this year since they rolled our their new home policies at the end of 2025 so may be worth looking into them. I've heard multiple complaints about service levels sliding as well. Between the big 3 (state farm, allstate, alfa), your home and auto are basically the same policies regardless of the company. Your policy will only be as good as your agent/agency so keep that in mind when picking.

I've been with USAA over 50 years. Every time I see a commercial for them, I get pissed off. They need to get back to what their initial mission was.

As a "cadre" member I get treated well and being an old fart I get an annual payment which equals about 1/4 of my annual car insurance.

Was with them for 20 something years. Awesome during Katrina and the 2016 Flood.

Over the past 10 years they have went from the cheapest rates to the most expensive. Made a minor claim on a storage unit not too long ago and it was a shite show. Eventually worked out, but pretty dysfunctional.

Switched to Progressive and the customer service is great even though they don't call me sir and charge a lot less.

Service? In my experience, Yes.

entire tech support and customer support has been outsourced to India. Real great patriotic and veteran centric company.

I left them the second a pajeet answered the phone and said his name was Mike.

It’s a great bank, but their rates kept going up, progressive was able to beat their rates.
