re: Why is Luka the only player in the NBA scrutinized for bad defense?
Posted by SwaggerCopter on 5/24/25 at 7:51 am
Luka is so similar to Harden in athletic makeup. It’s funny that they get the same criticism. I really liked Luka in the draft because he has the same elite ability to slowdown as Harden (which is better than quickness on offense), but unfortunately it seems that guys who are really good at hitting brakes tend to lack the agility and instincts required for great defense.
I don’t think people realize how hard it is to guard the worst NBA player on the floor. Those guys are unreal athletics and most of them can hit just about anything wide open. It’s always interesting to hear rookies talk about the transition to the NBA. Even though the league has a label for bad defense, rookies describe how hard the jump is. You go from each team having a couple scorers to every team being loaded with scorers who have settled into other roles.

We suck and life has gotten better for me after I’ve accepted that. Aggie sports is always just an elaborate setup for a new letdown. That is always the end. I had to laugh at my buddies glued to the TV for this whole tournament. Aggie sports are deeply flawed. And we won’t succeed at any real level in my lifetime, and I’m glad I don’t contribute a dime to any of it.

Man. I totally agree. This is wild nostalgia for me. Even the secondary crew is perfect: Cowlishaw, Blackistone, Jackie, and Isola.
re: Rockets or Warriors tonight?
Posted by SwaggerCopter on 5/4/25 at 12:38 pm
Warriors look exhausted, and Curry hasn't been hitting the daggers that have ruined my adults sports watching life. I feel decent about tonight, but it will probably somehow end like it always does.
If the Rockets really come back on the Warriors after being down 3-1, this will be very healing for me.

re: If the Rockets lose in 1st round…

Jalen Green is a streaky shooter, and he always will be. And unfortunately, his outside game opens up his drive, so if the shot isn't falling, it's single digits for him. I don't like pairing Giannis with Amen, and KD is too old. I think the Rockets need to explore Booker and Herro. They must absolutely keep Amen Thompson, Alperun Sengun, and Jabari Smith in my opinion. Everyone else could potentially go in trades. Jabari is so underrated at this point because he defends great, shoots well, and has absolutely no ego.
re: Remember when Dallas had Luka and Brunson?
Posted by SwaggerCopter on 5/1/25 at 9:51 pm
Two very ball dominant players. It was never going to work. Reminds me of the OKC Thunder dilemma back with Westbrook/Durant/Harden. It wasn't actually feasible. You need role players.
re: Why was Kyler Murray a 1st round pick in the MLB?
Posted by SwaggerCopter on 5/1/25 at 9:39 am
He batted .296 in his second season (was terrible in his first). He also had decent power with 10 home runs that year.
And his speed and athleticism basically guaranteed he would be an elite center fielder.

Wow. Need more information, but this certainly seems like going in the direction of killing college sports.

And Noah has been out of the league forever, and Noah had a long career!

Convenient when your predictions aren’t posted on a message board, and you can claim the correct take retroactively.
re: Frontrunner to become the next Catholic Pope
Posted by SwaggerCopter on 4/21/25 at 10:01 pm
Cardinal Sarah completely understands the West. His book "The Day is Now Far Spent" is a must read. He seriously comes across like a prophet diagnosing our problems. When Pope Francis speaks of the West, it is obvious he is out of touch. Meanwhile with Cardinal Sarah:
quote:
Europeans ought to be proud of their morals and customs that are inspired by the Gospel. The most precious gift that Europe could give to the immigrants living on its soil is not primarily financial aid, much less an individualist, secularized way of life, but rather a share in its Christian roots. The essential condition for welcoming the other person is: coming to terms with what one is. Given the danger of radical Islamism, Europe ought to be able to articulate firmly on what conditions one can share its life and its civilization. But it doubts itself and is ashamed of its Christian identity. So it ends up reaping contempt.

I hate the Warriors with the fire of a thousand suns.

It is so good to be watching playoff basketball again for my Rockets.

Incredible rebuild by Stone and Ime. So excited for playoff basketball, and hoping we draw Harden and the Clippers because I'm not afraid to admit Harden is a playoff choker now.

I actually do think Buzz will be a good fit. And rumor is he's interested.

I hate Duke except every once in a while when I like them. This is one of those years I like them. I liked them with Chris Duhon running point as well.
