No

Not once they started expanding eligibility to anyone who even once met a veteran

I had State Farm until around 10 years ago I switched to USAA. Had home and autos with their insurance for years, then they suddenly decided to double my auto rates so I switched, kept homeowners for a year or two and they hit me with 50% jump. Ended up at State Farm saving a couple grand per year. Shop them every time but not competitive anymore.
State Farm just hiked my rate 10% on home two years in a row, Allstate is quoting $2k less on home, similar on autos, everyone else is pretty comparable to State Farm with a few outliers on the high side.
Never dealt with Allstate and have heard some negative stories but it’s almost $2200/yr total savings going to feed all the quotes into AI and have it break down the coverages etc for me. Also State Farm has been pushing for 1% wind and hail deductible which in TN is my primary risk, others are offering $1k-5k deductibles with similar premiums which are much more palatable.

If wind/hail is your primary risk, call a roofer and ask for the best 3-5 insurance companies.
Price those 3-5 and take the one that you like the best.

We had USAA home, auto and life. 2 cars, 2
Drivers. When we went to add our teenage driver with no car, our rates were going to double.
I shopped auto and saved over 50%. When we added our teenager’s car, we finally surpassed USAA’s rates.
When we cancelled, there was no attempt at retention- they know they can’t compete in Louisiana. We still have Life and Homeowners with them.

If you are not a current or former officer in the military, you are not going to get their best rates. It's that simple.

I’m closely familiar with USAA. It’s probably one of the most woke companies out there. The 25 founders would be rolling in their graves if they knew how it was run.

Does USAA have better insurance rates and service, generally speaking?
A private opinion.

They weren’t even close to what I am paying.

Been with them for 22 years it was better before. It is still okay the 2 times I had to make a claim it was relatively easy. One was for auto and one was for home. I hear Navy Federal is better ,but I don't know cause I never had them.

No. They are high as a giraffes arse and creep them up YoY. The number of former USAA people I know (including me) is astonishing and it’s all the same story.

I dropped their auto insurance after 16 years because their rates went through the roof. I found the same coverage for almost half the cost through Geico.
Homeowners through USAA is great! Dropped my payment by $2200 for the same coverage with progressive.

Was a long time member. Have been away from them because their rates got too high. Called last week since my current auto insurer went apeshit. I bundle home/auto, too. When I checked, their auto rates were about $300 less. However, their homeowners rates are $1,000 higher for the exact same coverage.

I have USAA and no it doesn’t. I use them for my debit account now and that’s it. I’ve switched to other insurance companies over the years because USAA really isn’t any better and oftentimes worse when it comes to rates, filing claims, etc.

They've gone downhill a lot in the last several yrs.

Had been with USAA for 30 years.
Lightning struck our house in the fall of 2024 while we were out of town. House caught on fire and burned to the ground.
Fought with USAA for 16 months before they finally decided the house was a total loss. Am still fighting with them over the contents portion of the claim. It has been a nightmare. I will be switching once we are done with this claim.

I have found their homeowners insurance rates aren't competitive in Houston or SELA if you can get them to even write a policy. As for auto, for some reason for me they are by far and away the best. I shop around every year and nobody even comes close to the rates USAA gives us.

Still have USAA on everything. Home, vehicles, umbrella policy. Their homeowners insurance rate for me was 1/2 of what I could get elsewhere. Their service is awesome and I would pay more even if they went up.

Been with USAA for 22 years. Service is great, rates are not. I'm in the process of switching to Progressive for everything.

As an enlisted man vet, I bought USAA auto policies when I became eligible in 2009. My son did the same based on my eligibility. Two years ago we both did comparison shopping and found much better deals. For home insurance I've stayed with State Farm since 1986. Hurricane risk makes policy shopping a risky way to save money.
USAA became annoying when I dropped the auto policies. I'm still getting promo texts and emails 3 years later reminding me that I'm "still a member".
